In other threads someone raised a question about why Jesus is called the Son of Man. It was wondered whether or the use of this term meant that He is LESS THAN GOD.
Yes, some mistakenly think that the term Son of Man describes a being that is less than God.
Son of Man means that He is the perfect man, the ideal man, the paragon, but emphasizes that He is truly in flesh, a real human, the GOD who came as a man, the Son of Man (1 Cor. 15:47). The term Son of Man refers to the incarnation of divinity, the ultimate man.
The Judaic understanding of the term Son of Man was that it applied to God appearing in human flesh as the Ideal Man who demonstrated perfect obedience to the will of God. Kindred terms, such as Son of David, born of a woman, and Seed of the woman or of Abraham, convey the same idea: that God came into the earth, in time and space, in a real body, born of a woman under the specification of divine law (Gen. 3:15; Rom. 1:1-4; Gal. 4:4-5; Heb. 2:16-18).
Rather than diminishing the deity of the Savior, these terms magnify the reality that it was GOD who came as a man, the Son of Man (Matt. 16:13-17, 27-28; Mark 2:28; John 6:60-62). Although they were mystified when Jesus spoke of His impending death (John 12:32-34), the people knew that He was using the term Son of Man as a divine claim.
The Jews of the day were offended that the disciples identified Jesus as this divine Son of Man (Acts 7:55-57), making it clear that they understood the designation to be a claim of divinity (Matt. 26:63-67; Mark 14:61-63).
"Son of Man" is a term that magnifies the Deity of the Incarnate Son.
Flood, I'm glad you brought this forth. I had planned to do that, but didn't get around to it. Thanks for explaining this for everyone.
Son of Man/God-Man which is the title that showed Jesus' humanity, and identified his mission here on earth in connection with earthy man, and His purpose on earth as our redeemer.
Many people don't understand that God was/is Jesusi incarnated as man on earth as you've stated.
