Admin	Why you can Trust the Text of the New Testament Posted : 17 Jun, 2010 11:59 AM There are two reasons that the texts of the New Testament are trustworthy, and could NOT have been tampered with. 1. The explosion of the Christian faith all at once, leading to the texts being printed in several countries in several different languages. 2. The sheer AMOUNT of texts that were copied and distributed. By the time there was ANY ecclesiastical authority, say 350AD at the very soonest, there was NO POSSIBLE WAY ALL the different texts could have been gathered up and altered in any way. By that time, there were already texts that had been sealed in jars and buried in different lands, in different languages, and no one knew about them except the people who hid them! What we HAVE found out, by finding these ancient texts in different times and places is the New Testament texts ALL AGREE WITH EACH OTHER, and therefore the texts of the New Testament ARE accurate and we DO HAVE THE SAME WORDS IN OUR BIBLE THAT THE EARLIEST CHRISTIANS DID. View Profile History	Why you can Trust the Text of the New Testament Posted : 17 Jun, 2010 02:51 PM I trust the divine hand that guided the transmission of the text from the hand of the original writers to us today, through multiple copies and even through translations, and mis-translations, through use and abuse, even through copies and quotations in the writings of heretics and opponents of the faith, and the faithful answers of orthodox writers. We hold in our hands the word of God. However, sometimes it is his hidden in some of the newer versions, and must be obtained in its authoritative original sense from those reliable manuscripts trusted by multitudes of orthodox Christians through the centuries. FOR INSTANCE: Most modern translations for Luke 23:42 simply have the thief saying, "Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom," while the majority of the manuscripts trusted through the centuries say, "Jesus, LORD, remember me. . . ." And in I Corinthians 15:47, Paul contrasts Jesus with Adam, "the first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the LORD from heaven." This is the wording as witnessed by the vast majority of ancient manuscripts, ancient translations, ancient quotations, and ancient weekly Bible lessons. While it is true as found in many modern translations that the "second man [is] from heaven," it seems much stronger to stay with the reading of the majority of the texts that Jesus is not a man from heaven, but the man Christ Jesus in the LORD from heaven. WE have the trustworthy word, if we believe that we have always had it since it was written. Don't fall for the misguided notion that we are only NOW, in the last 50 years or so finally discovering the true word of God. God has preserved it through the centuries, it has always been there and always been reliable and worthy of our trust. Post Reply
