I would like to hear some peoples ideas or definitions of humanism. What is it? And, how is it effecting the church today?

I have my own sketchy ideas from listening to a sermon called Ten Shekels and a Shirt by Paris Reidhead. Powerful sermon if you ever get a chance to listen to it.

...they were MONSTERS of iniquity!

Humanism teaches us that it is immoral to wait for God to act for us. We must act to stop the wars and the crimes and the brutality of this and future ages. We have powers of a remarkable kind. We have a high degree of freedom in choosing what we will do. Humanism tells us that whatever our philosophy of the universe may be, ultimately the responsibility for the kind of world in which we live rests with us.

Very simple, man elevating himself of God, a good example of it amongst christians the word of God doesn't say that, or it doesn't mean what it says

The very talk of humanism means you not trusting god, but a man. After looking at the universe and even our world and u would trust a MAN that has made mistakes, (look at MANs docturine every man has made mistakes) . So common sense in its purist form after anlyisist wuld tell us that Humanism is a lie, there has to be something much more powerful that was here before we all were here.

No one here has quiet grasp what humanism really is. I did ask for opinions and got what I expected from who I expected, but none of the heavy thinkers here has responded.

The prosperity gospel is full of humanism, so is the "LUUUVE" gospel. And neither of those are the true gospel.

The idea that everything is for, and works out to man's great good, pleasure or well being in this life or the next is at the heart of humanism. The way it effects the church is all these programs the church does or gets involved in to help people out thinking that is the gospel when the true gospel is not being preached, falls under the umbrella call humanism.

God calls pastors to be warriors, shepard's and farmers. So why do we have entertainers, CEO's and marketing directors in the pulpit now days? Oh yeah, the bible tells us why, the people want the false teachers to tickle their itchy ears, so God say, okay here's what you want.

Darrello saying the truth is not an opinion, and you just proved it again, I mean a clear example of humanism in your last response. the problem is you believe you are right and the lord is wrong.

Another definition would be one that believes man has no free will, and thus demonstrates by his actions the perfect example of free will, unless you will admit someone influenced you to say what you said.

All truth is available to any man or woman or child, but and I say but every one theses must believe that God is and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.

All you have to do is open the book and put your will under his will (the word), in otherwords choose to accept his word as the truth and you can know his will on any matter. He is our greatest example of free will, that is the lord Jesus.

I wish you wouldn't talk about my father that way, but I understand you choose to of your own accord, but without any malice or anger, I forgive you for statements.

I dont know of any churches like that and God didnt call pastors to be warriors. That is what intercessors are for.

Pastors are shepherds, they watch over the flock and feed them. God definitely calls the unqualified...I know a pastor who before ministry was in medical school then felt the call of God on his life. He's been pastoring a thriving church for 12 years now.

Besides, the pulpit isnt our battle, it's the Lords.

maybe the motive for that would be so that they could work and do ministry. Pastors dont get paid much and if there isnt a sending church, it's even less.

Not trying to argue with you Darrell, just commenting on your last post.

2 Timothy uses these terms, a teacher,a soldier (sorry I used warrior) an athlete, a farmer, a workman, a vessel and a slave.

I guess you have not turned on much religious TV cause the entertainers, motivational speakers, marketing directors and CEO's run the show and no gospel preaching. And I have personally witnessed some bazaar stuff.

I feel for the most part, not always, but someone willing to go into medical field has a heart God can use in ministry so that doesn't surprise me a medical student can turn and be a shepard. Like a shepard became a king.

PJ as always I have no idea what you are talking about, you throw in a couple of Bible verses and ramble on with out a clue.
