I wanna Boaz ?
Posted : 29 Apr, 2010 12:41 PM

I have read that some females here are seeking their Boaz but unfortunately do not expect to be a Ruth . How many Godly expectations as opposed to just demands or worldly expectations are the basis for their decision to accept or reject a man after God`s own heart who is seeking that pearl of great price ?

where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.

Ruth 1:17 "Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me."

Just wonder, you are aware that Ruth is saying this to Noemi, not to Boas, right? ;)

I've really struggle with this myself. There are so many worldly things that I would enjoy in a man and it is so easy to get distracted by those desires.

Something that has really helped me with developing godly criteria for a husband is the Desiring God website (and we're not supposed to post links here, so I won't). And I know that probably not everyone here agrees with John Piper, but he has a lot of resources (books and sermons) available that discuss marriage. For me, just learning more about what makes a godly marriage helps me to refine what I'm looking for in a man and to realize that some of the things I want really just aren't that important.

On the subject of Ruth (LOVE the book of Ruth!), the Desiring God website has a sermon series on Ruth that is just excellent and really spoke to my heart, as a woman. VERY convicting! But encouraging too =)

Also, I follow a lot of blogs of godly women who discuss how to be a godly wife and mom. I think that it's great to glean wisdom from women who are married, and I wish that more women were open to mentoring younger/single gals in real life.

discipleship is very important, especially for someting like marriage. All my friends are married but me :(

and they are all quite a bit older too, so I was fortunate to have been around them for a long time. I've seen them grow in their relationship and know that the biggest thing in marriage is compromise and not having the last word is ok.

Anyhoo...what was the topic of this post, lol

Cant we all just get along?

Us girls dont duke it out, why do the guys fight over EVERY word? is it the uh um....testosterone factor?

I opened this post so we all could examine our motives and to seek the word for answers . Was Ruth so special in her commitment that she would not fit in todays world or does the book mean young girls should be looking for a rich dude , or does it lead us examine our prerequisites for marriage ? Does he have to be funny , tall , well built , must have hair on head , must not have hair on face , must not have piercings , must love dogs , must be a vegetarian , and on and on ?........... To me , the oddest thing of all is that we require and then find "our" requirements in someone and our divorce rates are still skyrocketing . Where are we going wrong ?
