Just wondering . . . why does what some people say is "rightly dividing the Word" end up unrightly dividing the Church? :boxing:

(BTW, I know unrightly is not a word :dunce: )

I guess that is because not all people agree that the person that is saying things about the Word is correct.

And in some cases, that might lead to essential different views on God, that can differ so much that they can't be both 'right' and therefore one of the two must be wrong.

Now about the dividing of the church. Essentially it is this: Group A and group B see that their differences are so large that they ultimately worship different 'Gods'. So they set up their 'own' church because they believe to do what God wants.

Now the question is: Are there different opinions in the whole Christian world that are so big that they justify a split up? I think there are, but I won't deny that there is a large possibility that some differences arent 'that bad' that they command a split up.

( is 'split up' a word, actually? Sorry, I'm Dutch. I hope I'm allowed to make weird sentences. )

I believe there is two simple truths that help bring about confusion:

The word of God is not accepted as truth:

Many times it is treated as if it means what I say even though scripture says clearly otherwise, emphasis is put on the word of man, more than the word of God. Most do not believe the word of God from the heart as scripture teaches, they approach the word with their mind and reasoning faculties.

The heart of man is the very core or center of his being, his spirit.

To believe means to accept as true.

The second error is not receiving the Holy Spirit as the word teaches.

We know what Spirit mockery is of, and it is not of the spirit of God.

Thunder,

A very good question and point.

People sometimes "think" they understand God's word and unfortunately do not apply the established method of biblical interpretation with any consistency. Many times people will look through very bias eyes and are unwilling to be wrong about what they believe or have been taught to believe. A big problem is that some people can very prideful in what they believe. This is many times what causes churches to be divided and fellowships broken as well.

Sometimes though, church splits can be good if the church is teaching falsely and people find it necessary to leave. Sometimes a purging can be a good thing though initially it can be unsettling.

Blessings!

Walter
