Lord thank you for making me smarter than my neighbor,so i dont burn in hell like him,I also thank you for the good sense to respond to your call,even though a whole lotta other people didnt,glad Im made of that special stuff.........this is just an illustration of arminian beleifs.........have you ever prayed that god touch someone in your family ,maybe a younger brother or an unbeleiving parent?Well then you just prayed like a Calvinist!think people,use both sides of your brain philipjohn its easy!
You believe as you will that is your choice, the brain, the mind have nothing to do with interacting with God, but this is clear in Scripture that the mind is Satan's playground.
I commune with My father out of my heart, or Spirit, as referred to in scripture as the inward man
1st is believing in God isn't like believing there will be rain tomorrow. The rain-believing depends on my brains, believing in God not so.
2nd is, in times of when the bible was written, people thought of the heart as the center of thinking, that's why there are passages speaking of thinking with one's heart. So we would say brains for that today, the emotional centre in the body was the guts/bowels or sometimes kidneys...
Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"
i'd like a biblical reference that the mind is lucifer's playground... please :goofball: all i've seen tells me to renew my mind in the word of God.
Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
1 Thessalonians 5:21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
now 2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
if we were instructed to " prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God", then were told that "[God is] not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." what is between that chasm? between what we were instructed to do and what we were told and (hopefully) believe? could it be that we must take responsibility for the way we directly or indirectly "bring" someone to repentance? if so, how? imo, if God is with you, who can be against you?
i'm with you manofgod, using both sides of the brain are crucial.
Why certainly:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
This passage is speaking of people before they where born again, but many christians still are caught up in this because they have not been taught.
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Where do thought's come and go?
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ask yourself what are the fiery darts?
You will find the first record of it in Genesis.1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, sh
