Led by Spirit of Flesh?

Saved at age twenty five I had no knowledge that the Holy Spirit lived in me and unknowingly reserved the rights of my flesh. Flesh also known as human nature, my selfish desires was still leading the way and a stumbling block for the next twenty two years. Why? My lack of Gods' Words written in the Holy Bible. Through His Word He gave me the knowledge and understanding that I needed to let go of my selfish desires and toldl me if I wanted His will working in my life I could not want what I wanted when I wanted it anymore. I had to give God ALL of me. I cried out to Him on my knees knowing I had to put to death the deeds of my body and asked Him to renew the Holy Spirit who lives in me so that I could fully serve His will for my life.

Letting go of my selfish desires was not easy for me to do and I literally mourned over the death of my flesh for several days having to let go of my will of what I wanted. How selfish of me! I am still human and forever keeping my human nature in check by seeking the guidance and teachings of the Holy Spirit who lives in me.

Here are a few of the scripture passages that helped me understand what I needed to do to live according to the Spirit.

And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passion and desires (Gal.5:24).

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Romans 8:13)

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5).

Are you being led according to your Spirit or flesh?

We receive the holy spirit upon being born again. Whether we realize that or not is a total different thing. but that is why discipleship is so important..we have to be able to gleen from the experiences of leaders and be teachable and yes ask the holy spirit to give you revelation when reading His word.

The old man is dead, he was left behind at baptism but we still have our own will which has to be placed under subjection daily.

God desires us to live our lives led by the holy spirit, if we could keep an atmosphere of worship and the ability to see things in the spiritual instead of the natural, then we'd be doing good but haha that isnt real life for most of us.

We just keep trying again every time we wake up.

I'll probably get 5 emails contradicting what I just wrote but it's ok...I'm used to it.

Great testimony Love 7. I had such a similar experience. I realized I could not be a Christian on my own but once I understood God would be the Christian through me by His Spirit I was completely renewed and now I understand life in the Spirit. What a blessing!

River, I think you hit the nail of Sanctification right on the head. It is a process of recognizing when we miss the mark, confess it, repent and move forward.

River and Thunder thank you for your spiritually filled response with His love.

I prayed this morning asking the Lord what can I say to let people who don't know Your Spirit is alive in those who believe in Jesus. This is what I wrote in my daily journal; Your love is like no others and through Your Spirit You gave me true love that I never want to loose. I shall meditate on Your Word daily as You tell us throughout the bible to keep Your love (Spirit) nourished in me. (Josh 1:8)

Love7, thanks for sharing your testimony of how God is leading you by His Spirit and His Word. I have been saved for over 25 years myself. I have found that most believers begin their life in Christ by believing on the finished work of the cross by our Lord Jesus and realize their lost and utter hopeless condition without His saving grace. But just like the Galatian believers after experiencing salvation by faith in God's grace, fall back into a works plus grace mindset which will set them up for discouragement and walking or living by the flesh instead of the Spirit. We must humbly acknowledge our dependence on God because of our human weakness and inability to walk in obedience to His righteous paths apart from His divine empowerment by His Spirit. Some Scriptures that have helped me to see this truth are: Gal.2:16-21, Gal.3:2-5. Faith in God and in His promises are the doorway that we must walk through to be blessed by God in our lives because the " just shall live by faith" & " we walk by faith and not by sight" . Hebrews 11:1,6 address the absolute importance of faith in our lives in order to grow in the grace of God. The Scriptures that you shared from Romans are so essential in becoming conformed to the image of Jesus our Lord. May God richly bless you and all of God's children ~ 1 Peter1:3-5. Jesus is returning soon! Lift up your heads for your redemption draws near!

I thank you and admire your knowledge by expressing a more clear understanding of how powerful the Spirit is and by Gods grace through faith all His children have a choice to be spiritually led or live foolishly by their flesh. Gal. 3:2-5 Powerful scripture passages.

We receive everything when we receive Christ (Rom. 8:32). This is so true. Then after that it is like when we get a new car: we read the owner's manual to find out all the features of the vehicle and how to use all the power equipment.

Many people are happy to have the car, but they spend their lives straining and sweating, wearing themselves out, pushing it down the road, instead of letting the new vehicle carry them. There is plenty of power and provision in the vehicle to give us the ride of their lives!

There is so much that is ours in the Christian Life (2 Cor. 1:20; 2 Pet. 1:3-4). The closer we get to God in personal fellowship, the more we will experience all of that LIFE that is ours in Christ (John 17:3).

Seeking a deeper relationship with God can only come when you have given your fleshly desires up wholeheartedly. As many Christians today, I use to believe God could not possibly want me to follow everything written in the Bible and I picked and chose His words which suited me, until one day He revealed a message through scripture.

This book shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you observe to do according to ALL that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success(Joshua1:8).

That was so powerful to me because I deeply wanted to prosper and be successful. I was tired of failing in all that I did. I have heeded to His word through this scripture ever since that day almost four years ago, prospering with good success in all that I do. And ALL the glory be to God!

The Lord wants to lead us in His ways transforming everything about us. Our spirit bears witness with his Holy Spirit and His will is manifested through our lives.

I pray that this message reaches those who are still struggling with life, feeling like a failure. God wants you to be happy and for you to prosper and successful but He can't guide spiritually if your are full of your self and own desires. Father let them know Your ways. In Jesus name. Amen
