Barclay is mine yes I do know he was a universalist. I like the way he brings the culture and traditions of biblical times to life. I also have others but like his the most. If I'm trying to exegete i go straight for the greek or hebrew lexicon.

It would be interesting and probably a little enlightening to know what commentary you all favor.

I like the footnotes included with the Geneva Bible. I read this older Bible for devotions and study and compare it with the KJV.

The KJV plagairised about half of the Geneva Bible (and never gave it credit) and differs from the Geneva Bible in its bias for "the divine right of kings".

The footnotes are very good in the Geneva Bible.

Well, there are three that I really like, understand and can think deeply about. Matthew Henry, Ray Stedman, and Charles Spurgeon.

R.A. Torrey's New Topical Textbook; Matthey Henry's; Jameson, Fausset and Browne and John Wesley's Explanatory Notes. I also like most of the notes in Dake's Annoted Reference Bible and Vine's Dictionary.

I have e-sword on my computer. If you don't have it you should get it. It's free and you can choose the Bible translations including a KJV with Strong's numbers toggled in it, commentaries, dictionaries and e-books you want on it. You do have to pay for some of the Bibles and books but the free stuff is great. Everything is searchable and you can create your own commentary and topical notes.

T- you're the second person who told me about e-sword. Just never checked it out. Also, I will reference on line commentaries as well at www. blueletterbible.com. (I actually only have one hard book on Henry). ~GM

T,

I have e-sword as well. I don't know what I would do without it.

GM,

It is hard to beat Spurgeon, good call.
