Age of accountability?

Is there an age of accountability? If so, why do you think so, and what age is it? Please include scriptures if you have any.

If not, then explain how children that don't know better can be held accountable for their sins.

Blessings,

Leon

Hey Leon! :waving:

Good question!! :applause:

If you don't mind, I'd also like to ask about people that have a mental disability? Are they accountable?

With love,

T

I believe that there IS an accountability age, however my mind is completely blank as to where I think I read about it... hopefully someone else on here will be able to help me out. I'd try and look it up now, but I'm fixing to take off. Two points I'd like to bring up, though, before I leave.

1. I'm pretty sure that most of us here are familiar with what we believe to be the character of God. Do you think he would punish someone who either a) couldn't help it or b) didn't know any better? Kind of remind me of the story of Adam and Eve and their nakedness.

2. I hate making these kinda calls, anyways, cause in the end, I'm not gonna be the judge. I'M gonna be judged. Remember, however, that we don't only serve a just God, but a merciful God. (Thank the Lord!)

There's the verse that says "God winks at our ignorance", and the fact that if you commit a sin without knowing it, it's not held against you. Can't remember verses either....they're in there though. It talks about unintentional sin sacrifices in exodus or something...and if you never realized you committed an unintentional sin...then how could you sacrifice for it? I think that Jesus' blood would cover something like that pretty well. "Forgive them Father....for they know not what they do". The accountability comes when you know the difference between right and wrong about stuff....but I don't think there is a specific "age".

This scripture has always given me comfort on this subject, see what you think.

4 As for your nativity, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed in water to cleanse you; you were not rubbed with salt nor wrapped in swaddling cloths. 5 No eye pitied you, to do any of these things for you, to have compassion on you; but you were thrown out into the open field, when you yourself were loathed on the day you were born. 6 "And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Yes, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' 7 I made you thrive like a plant in the field; and you grew, matured, and became very beautiful. Your ******* were formed, your hair grew, but you were naked and bare. 8 When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed your time was the time of love; so I spread My wing over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine," says the Lord God. 9 Then I washed you in water; yes, I thoroughly washed off your blood, and I anointed you with oil. 10 I clothed you in embroidered cloth and gave you sandals of badger skin; I clothed you with fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your wrists, and a chain on your neck. 12 And I put a jewel in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen, silk, and embroidered cloth. You ate pastry of fine flour, honey, and oil. You were exceedingly beautiful, and succeeded to royalty. 14 Your fame went out among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through My splendor which I had bestowed on you," says the Lord God

The subject is God's love for Jerusalem, but prophesy always has three messages. one God's love, also, the salvation story. See what you think. I think it is the most beautiful scripture in the Bible.

Leon

While I do believe in predestination to a degree, I do not believe that about salvation in children. Let me break down the scripture I posted. It explains the whole process, in detail.

6 "And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Yes, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!'

This means, you were born in sin and no one could change that, but as you lay there in your sin (blood), I, out of my love for mankind, gave you a chance to live. I did not hold your sin against you, but pardoned you, so you could have a chance to come to me cleansed.

7 I made you thrive like a plant in the field; and you grew, matured, and became very beautiful.

After that God comes by and notices that you have reached an age where you are accountable, so He takes you as one of His own, washes away your sin, covers you with His righteousnes, Baptizes you and enters into covenant relationship with you. He gives you the Holy Spirit to teach you, clothed in righteousness, adorned with the glory of God, you are the envy of all that see you, and everyone knows that you are blessed.

Finally, you are accepted completely, you have proven your worth, you are the elect of the Lord, and every person around knows it. You bring glory to Him as He has given you all things, because all that makes you the glory of man, comes from God.

To me, this is so simple. It speaks of the salvation process from beginning to end. It even reminds us that we are not earning anything, it is a gift from God. Everything good about us came from Him.

Just my interpretation,

Leon

Romans 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

PJ,

That was a good one as well for proving we are innocent until we know it is wrong.

Good job,

Leon
