Ok...we got snowed in today, so no church. But I was watching a little bit of a sermon on the internet, and he was talking about the fruits of the spirit. He just touched on what the fruit of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was, but it got me thinking a bit. God never wanted us to experience evil. We would never have even known what evil was if our first parents had never touched that tree. God only wanted good for us...why? Because He loves us right? Then why was there that stupid tree in the garden? Because He loved us enough not to force us, He gave us the choice to have the last thing in the universe that He wanted us to have if we wanted it. You always hear people talk about this...but God loved us enough to let us go, enough to give us the option to go...even knowing that we WOULD go and that He would have to send His son to suffer and die for all that knowledge of evil...I dunno, just hit me a little bit. That's a lot of love.

Yeah but the part that baffles me sometimes is why did he say Eve did it unwillingly...how is that a choice? When Jesus was tempted by the devil he resisted. "Eve" may not have know what that was when she was tempted. Or how to resist or use it. We all havent resisted or we all would not have fallen at our own glory. I agree God love is greater than we can understand and his Mercy/Grace which is his love is who God is. He lets it rain on the good and the evil.

This is just some deep thought that makes it a mystery to me. I trust in the Lord to help me with this but until then it remains a mystery. GivenLife

Not sure I understand what you're sayin'....what do you mean

"unwillingly"? God said "don't eat of the tree in the midst of the garden", it was a extremely simple test of obedience. As long as they followed that one little rule God could protect them from every evil. Anyway....the bible doesn't go into too much detail about all the transpired. Doesn't say how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before this happened, doesn't say how many times God reminded them of the one rule, doesn't say if Adam and Eve understood the consequences. It gets a lot more complicated when you add Satan to the picture. We don't know the politics involved in heaven, we don't know how or why Satan was allowed to tempt Eve...but it happened...you're right, just have to trust God. All we really know for sure is that God loves us enough to die for us, hopefully that's enough to allow us to trust Him with our lives.

Hit the mark ...right on! Right off the bat in Genesis it was all about love....where was Adam when Eve ate of the fruit .. doesnt say but I do believe Adam knew she was in big doo-doo for eating it for he knew that they were told not to. So, what did Adam do? He didnt say well Eve you blew it so 'ya gotta suffer the consequences alone ....nope ..Adam truly loved Eve and said well whatever is going to happen to you is going to happen to me and he took a big bite ... now that is love!!!

Adam is a "model" of Christ who loved us so much that He "took a big bite (the cross) for our transgressions. Believe it or not.

Never thought of it that way...I guess you could kinda make that connection, but what Adam did was sin...anyway...lets blame the whole thing on Satan...I like that idea...good ol' scapegoat.

The book of Jubilees says .] Adam and his wife were in the garden of Eden for seven years tilling and keeping it, and we gave him work and we instructed him to do everything

that is suitable for tillage. And he tilled (the garden), and was naked and knew it not, and was not ashamed, and he protected the garden from the birds and beasts and cattle, and gathered its fruit, and eat, and put aside the residue for himself and for his wife. Although this book is not considered scripture it does fill in the gaps that the bible leaves out and remarkable it follows the scriptures very closely.

This is what I meant...

Romans 8:20-28 (English Standard Version)

20For the creation(A) was subjected to futility, not willingly, but(B) because of him who subjected it, in hope 21that(C) the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22For we know that(D) the whole creation(E) has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have(F) the firstfruits of the Spirit,(G) groan inwardly as(H) we wait eagerly for adoption as sons,(I) the redemption of our bodies. 24For(J) in this hope we were saved. Now(K) hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25But if we hope for what we do not see, we(L) wait for it with patience.

I guess I'm still not sure how that applies to Eve sinning "unwillingly". I'm pretty sure it's just talking about our fallen state because of sin. Humans used to live for 900 years...the world was ripped apart and thrown out of balance by a flood...everything is still degrading...and not willingly.
