So I'm starting out the new year reading the Penetuch and Psalms as I usually do. I'm currently in Leviticus and I always find it the most difficult. Anyone have any ideas on how I can really dig into this book and glean truth from it? All my usual reference materials/study bibles are in long term storage at the moment.

Thanks!

Well...I know how you feel, and about the only thing I can think of is to look for parallels to Jesus's ministry in the sanctuary services and offerings. Leviticus...Numbers...Deuteronomy...all hard, but there is some cool stuff if you dig deep enough. Just try and think of all the offerings and services as physical expressions of a spiritual impression. That was basically what the Jewish example was supposed to be to us. The old physical outward covenant in contrast with the new spiritual inward covenant.

Digging into old test. books. We've been studing old test books in our Wed. night meetings. We start with 3 basic questions to start our discussions.

1. What do we see in God's character or conduct? What do we see that we can praise and thank him for?

2. Are there any specific sins that we see in a particular passage that we should ask protection from or forgiveness for?

3. Are there any specific request or commands for us to be more like Christ?

We only take it a few verses at a time, but when we pick apart 9 or 10 verses between 12 or 15 christians, we can burn up an hour or two quick. Then we all go home saying, "Whoa, I didn't realize that".

So maybe find a few people to join in on a study group with you. Me and my pastor started a small group with two other guys this week to find ways to remove more of self in order to make more room for Jesus.

God speaks, not always loud as thunder so it might take 2 or 3 more people to help us hear.

Have fun.
