Scripture ContradictionPosted : 22 Dec, 2009 06:05 PMThe first is asking for an involuntary result of living a christian life, to have people attracted to your lifestyle because they can see God working in your life. The second is warning against "showing off" your righteousness to receive praise from men. |

Scripture ContradictionPosted : 22 Dec, 2009 08:31 PMMark is correct, it is all in motivation, one glorifies God the other glorifies self. I don't see that one cancels the other at all, it is no different than works are like dirty rags on the floor, while faith without works is dead. When you want to be noticed, it is the wrong motivation. When you become an instrument in the hands of the Lord, serving where there is no glory, being that anonymous angel that made a difference and no one needs to know about, walking away from the spotlight, knowing that is going to touch someone and bring them closer to God, these are the things that are different Will. |

Scripture ContradictionPosted : 23 Dec, 2009 07:46 AMI know God's Word doesn't "contradict" itself, that it never returns void, is the seed, is the truth, is the light, and the power we need.....but I was hoping that anyone would give a more detailed response for the proper context. It's akward wording for the scriptures considering how close they appear in the bible. A non-Christian would be quick to point that out unless the time was given to really see and understand. |

Scripture ContradictionPosted : 23 Dec, 2009 10:09 AMGuess I 'm too simple to get what you are saying Will, cuz I think it's just that simple, I don't see any confusion in it at all. I fail to see the complexity of what you are saying so I guess I will let someone more adept address where you are going with this, for I am perplexed that a Christian would not be able to clearly see it. |

Scripture ContradictionPosted : 23 Dec, 2009 01:30 PMYeah, not sure what you mean either...it seems clear to me. I wouldn't know how to explain it any better though. Maybe if I use more words:goofball:. There is the natural "shining of light" that comes from when you are serving God, doing the only things you know that He always wants you to do...LOVE and OBEY Him. Has nothing to do with showing off, or earning anything. You do it because of the immeasurable love and sacrifice He has given you. The side effect of these "good works" is that people see the love of God, and the love you have for God...which causes them to long for a valuable, eternal relationship with their Creator and Savior. "Good works" are only a side effect of love and faith, but if you do not have these good works then your faith is useless. You only care about saving yourself, and that is not the love of God. So then you have dead faith. A person with dead faith is an unfaithful servant that buries his love in the ground. One that receives great mercy and gives none. A person with dead faith will not be in the kingdom. |

Scripture ContradictionPosted : 24 Dec, 2009 01:39 PMIf God were to give you the Grace that led you to lift weights so as to develop your body and if you did this diligently and over time ended up with a very strong well developed bodythis would be the same as if God had built you up Spiritually through Grace. |
