The post from user GivenLife inspired this tiny contribution. Her post made me re-evaluate the mistakes I've made in my past while helping me to see more clearly in this present day the proper priorities of a Christian.

I would say that the types of false idols would be abundant in their expression, so it would be kind of hard to really categorize them, to label every false idol that could possible exist in the world. That would be a big task. :)

For the sake of simplifying, how about trying on these for size?

The pursuit of perfection (flesh vs. spirit)

Performance

Position

Power

Presitige

Possessions

Prosperity

Pride

Popularity

Praise

Pain

The Past

Procrastination

Self-centered pleasure

Promiscuity

Would anyone else like to add to the list?

Any comments, insight, and blessed truth about false idols?

Perhaps, a personal testimony bringing light to your battle with them?

I appreciate all people who positively participate. Please know that it will never be a waste of your time.

Thanks Will,

For me it really comes down to if I find myself serving two Masters?

If I am spending so much time in front of a TV or computer Monitor or with a video game that my time with and in front of God suffers or is lacking -- than I am serving two or more Masters. Something I have been and still find myself convicted of.

Our adversary does control us by physically possessing us....but most usually it does so by OBSSESION -- by our obssession with something or someone. Even Religious things can become an obssession that will blind us and lead us astray and be used against us by our enemy.

Peace

It seems to me that it would be easiest to put a living person, such as a spouse or child, ahead of God in one's life, or even a parent or a boss, if perhaps work rules your life. I may have seen this happen more times that I even know. For me, since I live alone, it would have to be possessions. There was a time in my life when I know I struggled with it. When I bought my first home, then a new car, few pieces of jewelry, began to loose some of my focus, but the Lord got my attention pretty quickly. This would probably include some of the other things such as pride. I am still very careful every day to do something consciously that puts God first every day, i.e. how much of his word I read, seeking him in prayer first every day and giving the day to him, etc. I never want to fall into that trap again, want to make sure He is first as I mature more in my walk with Him. There is nothing better to own than the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ!

Your Servant In Christ,

Cecelia

Relationships can be an issue for me. That is one reason it is so important for me to be in a relationship with a Christian Woman.

My job, my need for approval and acceptance are other stumbling blocks.
