How do you see this warning that Christ warned us not to do? Judge not for ye shall be judged.

my comprehension interpret the scripture that

you are not to judge the soul (where it spends eternity) but you are to judge the fruit of the spirit. Test the spirits then judge what to do.

I beleive we (I) have to take extra care about pointing the finger at someone else.

Scripture says

_Mat 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

_Mat 7:4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye?

_Mat 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

My Dad used to tell many in my younger years, "watch that finger your're pointing, remember you got the other three pointing back at you!".

I agree with what has been said.

We can't even judge our soul, that's something that only God has the power and knowledge to do. But we can certainly judge the words and actions of people starting with ourselves.

It's not always for the negative either we can say "That person's nice" or "What that person said was rude" without harboring resentment towards that person or putting them on a pedestal.

I think people often get hung up on judgment, sometimes confusing it with discernment, and often times clouded by conviction. We should not hate the sinner, only the sin. Casting stones, killing someone for what they have done that is perhaps no ones business, or at least no one with a stone in their hand.

What is discernment? How does it differ from judgment? Can you tell the difference? When you run into someone that cannot tell the difference, does it become your job to "point it out" for them? Why do people do this? Could it be the things within themselves that they hate? Their own convicted hearts, pointing at another, so no one will look at them? Or at least not look at them too closely?

Do we examine ourselves with as much harshness? Perhaps we should. I tend to believe if we truly look at what the Lord is trying to show us, that it is not the other persons short comings we are meant to find, but our own log that needs removing.

Pay attention to the attention you call upon others. If what you are pointing out are their flaws and short comings, that will someday be you as well. Point at them and tell them they are beautiful today, point them out and say didn't he do an amazing job! Point them out as being an example that you admire.

If you cannot point to their beauty, keep your pointing finger to yourself.

But also remember, if you ask for an honest critic of something, have the courage to listen for the truth in what you seek. It is not exactly finger pointing if you ask someone if you look fat in these jeans and they say that you do.

I learned a hard lesson a long time ago that if you listen carefully to the people that care about you, they will give you a reasonable assessment that should not be ignored. If you do not pay attention, the world will point its fingers at you and give you the same assessment, but it won't be nearly as kind. In that respect, and when it comes to judgment in general, we are most often our own worst enemies.

dear folks, to me its like this, it doesnt hurt to preach or teach that its wrong to steal to a thief .. or to preach or teach that its wrong to murder to a murderer..

but it becomes wrong when you look at them and decide in your mind that thats all they are or ever will be. when you look down upon them or you question their salvation in your mind .. or out loud.. cause only GOD , JESUS knows that for sure.

I tend to agree. But I'd argue a little more proper rendering of that scripture is, "If you are going to judge, then be prepared to have the standard that you decide to use, used upon you."

Christ's point is not that we can't judge. (Although some things we can't. We cannot judge the soul. That is not something we can do.) We can, but we need to be careful.

It's always a tad humorous to me that whenever you've called something on the carpet that the general response is "Judge not, lest ye be judged!" *sigh*

I'll caveat this with the idea that this answer will probably be different than most you'll get.

I agree with everything that has been posted. To me it says do not judge a book by it's cover, also, or you will be judged inthe same way. The possibilities are limitless, but goes without saying not to judge someone's salvation. If someone at church does something, pray for them or talk to them about it, but do not judge them for it. If you see someone in a store that is wearing filthy clothes and had an odor, do you run and say how disgusting, or would it make a difference to know that they had just lost their home in a fire and had no clean clothes to wear or place to take a shower yet? Or if you knew that they were part of a family in town that were always dirty, and were probably not even saved, but the reason was because the girl's father is an alcoholic and her mother had a mental sickness, and the whole family desperately needs the love of Christ to reach out to them. Do you know or care? What does the Spirit say to you. Or do you just run away and say, "How disgusting!" The woman who was just rude to you in the checkout line at the grocery store, do you think how rude and run tell her supervisor about it, or would it matter if you knew that she was battling cancer and trying to work while receiving treatments, and possibly needed to hear a good, encouraging Word? What does the Spirit tell you? I feel the next verse about pigs and dogs tells you to be wise, that if your Spirit warns you or tells you a situation is not right or evil beyond repair, not to cast good things before it. Or how about if a person writes a bad check at the store you work at or own, and when they come in to pay it, you look at them disgustedly and maybe even speak down to them, thinking they are beneath you or a bad person or plain irresponsible, but would it matter if you knew that his drunk wife had gotten ahold of the checkbook and spent a bunch of money without telling him again, and the reason she was a drunk is she couldn't get over the death of their child earlier that year. Would it make a difference, do you know, what does the Spirit tell you? I am not perfect and do not feel I should judge someone else on their shortcomings. I do feel we are allowed to judge when it comes to following God's word among christians, wish I could remember where all these scriptures are, Galatians 6:1 tells us if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Would you want someone to reach out to you if they noticed a problem, or walk away in judgement, thinking, saying and doing who knows what? Could there be any harm in that? Little spiritual food for thought. I would want someone to help me, don't have to hesitate on that one, or at least pray for me, how about you?
