1 Peter1 What does "Elect" and "Foreknowledge" really mean?Posted : 7 Dec, 2009 11:23 AMHere is another article addressing the bad English translation due to Calvinistic bias of the translators. This is also a very important article and well worth the time to read and study it. |

1 Peter1 What does "Elect" and "Foreknowledge" really mean?Posted : 7 Dec, 2009 10:37 PMSteve... it is 100% accurate. Stop hanging on to Calvinism and make a decision to seek God's wisdom and be willing to be wrong. Study my Friend and make no assumptions that Calvinism is correct. Challenge your beliefs. |

1 Peter1 What does "Elect" and "Foreknowledge" really mean?Posted : 8 Dec, 2009 08:14 AMI really just don't get this whole argument...I DO believe in election and predestination, the translation doesn't bother me...it's the wrong interpretations that get me. God does know everything, God has planned everything...but is it really so hard to understand that He doesn't need to remove any part of our free will to do His will? I know that everything I do, every day, every second, is in God's plan. I can't change any of it. But I believe I still have free will. Not limited free will. Total free will. But because God is a super awesome genius that can see that future...it doesn't mess with His plan. It is possible to influence someone to do something without removing their choice. True. We would not come to God unless He influenced us by showing us our sin through the law, or by showing us His grace through His son, or by convicting us by His holy spirit. I guess I just don't understand how a God-influenced choice to follow Jesus is a "work that saves yourself". |

1 Peter1 What does "Elect" and "Foreknowledge" really mean?Posted : 8 Dec, 2009 06:18 PMMaybe, but...I think God protects and plans the translation of His word so that it never is too far from the truth...the point is to interpret the whole bible with the whole bible. It cannot contradict itself, so in the places where it seemingly disagrees with itself, the fallible biased human interpretation is wrong. |

1 Peter1 What does "Elect" and "Foreknowledge" really mean?Posted : 8 Dec, 2009 10:14 PMElection---Ephesians 1: 4-11, before the foudation of the world. John15:16, Ye have not chosen me,but I have chosen you and ordained you. Acts 13:48 And as many as were ordained to etenal life believed. Romans 9:11-24, Purpose of God according to election. Romans 11:5,7,28. Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessolonians !:4; 2 Peter1:10. This is the biblical teaching that God in His love chose from among totally sinful human beings some that he would redeem to himself while passing others by. The word elect in 1 Peter1: 2 is from the Greek word Eklektos, which means by implication favorite--chosen, elect. Also from the Greek word Eklegomai, which means to select--make choice, choose(out),chosen. The word, forenowledge, in 1 Peter 1:2 comes from the Greek word, Prognosis, meaning ,fore thought. Also from the word Proginosko, To know beforehand;forsee-foreknow(ordain),know (before). Romans 8:29; 11:2. |
