was Jesus ever afraid ❓❓ the answer might surprise you

There is no specific verse in the New Testament that says that Jesus was ever afraid. But, we can conclude that He was afraid when facing what He had to go through on the cross. It would be a terrifying prospect and naturally bring fear into anyone who knew he would experience it. The word “afraid” in Greek is φοβέω phobéō. It occurs 92 times in the N.T., and the NASB95 is rendered as afraid Matt. 1:20; Mark 4:41; Luke 2:10, etc. fear Luke 1:50; John 12:15, etc. frightened 1 Pet. 3:6, respect Eph. 5:33 etc. It doesn’t occur about Jesus. Was Jesus ever afraid

Jesus was afraid

Jesus is God and man John 1:1, 14; Col. 2:9 The attributes of both natures are ascribed to Him as a person. This is called the communicatio idiomatum. So, as a man, He would have naturally faced the prospect of going to the cross with great trepidation since it would involve great physical suffering. And that is exactly what we find in Scripture.

Luke 22:44, “And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.”

Hebrews 5:7, “In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.”

Jesus experienced normal human emotions.

Jesus is both God and man. This is called the hypostatic union. Being a man, He would have experienced the normal emotions that a man would have experienced – otherwise, how is He a man ❓❓

The range of emotions attributed to Jesus are as follows: Anger Matt. 21:12-13, Compassion Matt. 9:36; 14:14; Mark 1:41, Dread Luke 22:44 Distress Matt. 26:34; Mark 14:33, Fear Matt. 26:38 Grief/Sadness Matt. 23:37; 26:38, Love John 11:5, 36, Rejoicing/Joy Luke 10:21 & Sadness John 11:35

Thanks HC for the insights‼️‼️

I always wondered if the great agony that sounded in his voice when he cried, “ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me”⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ (my emphasis shared with the⁉️s)

I still don’t know fully what he meant when he said that. Shame on me for not having looked more closely😑

If indeed he experienced the wrath of God to the extent of having God literally “forsake” him. That would be a very traumatic experience above all traumatic experiences‼️‼️
