the commandments are we too keep them?

these are Jesus words to His followers:

matt 5:16

17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.

He says He didn't come to cancel them out!

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.

*again He states He did not come to put and end to the commandments of God

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments , and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

*beware of what you teach others

20 For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

the scribes and pharisees kept the commandments and so it was necessary for them to do so,us too

matt 19;17 And he said unto him, Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments .

key verse

matt22 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.

*the whole law is included here it states the commandments are role un into two not abolished!

mark 10:17 And as he was going forth into the way, there ran one to him, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

18 And Jesus said unto him,

19 Thou knowest the commandments , Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor thy father and mother. 20 And he said unto him, Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth. 21 And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

here we see the young ruler keeping the commandements and the Lord looking on him with love. no where did Jesus say you don't have to do them he said one thing thou lackest.

John 14:15

If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments .

John 14:20

In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments , and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.

John 15:9 Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments , ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments , and abide in his love.

Paul speaking

1 corth 7:17 Only, as the Lord hath distributed to each man, as God hath called each, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all the churches. 18 Was any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Hath any been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but the keeping of the commandments of God.

11 peter 3:1 This is now, beloved, the second epistle that I write unto you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by putting you in remembrance; 2 that ye should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of the Lord and Saviour through your apostles:

1john2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. 3 And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments .

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments , is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

5 but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him: 6 he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.

1john 3:23

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

1john5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments .

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments : and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, [even] our faith. 5 And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

2 John 5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments

. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it.

rev12: 17 And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints, they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

well what do you think???? i say yes!:purpleangel:

Are you speaking of the Christian 10 Commandments of Exodus 20 or the Jewish version in Exodus 34:28, which is the only place where they are called the Ten Commandments?

Should we obey the Commandment not to gather wood on the Sabbath on the penalty of death. Or the Commandment to stone to death disobedient children?

Is one sin greater than the other?

Shalom

dear mtaw, you are to keep every single one of them pertaining to the two greatest commandments here..

matthew 22: 37-40 37 Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
