Just wondering what y'alls favorite "Jesus miracles" were, and why. Here's mine:

Miracle: Jesus walking on water. John 6:16-24.

Why: I like this particular miracle, because it reminds me that Jesus wasn't always business. Yes, He had an important mission here on earth, but He knew how to be laid back at the same time. This miracle didn't serve to benefit anyone. It was just Jesus being Jesus. He could have found another way across to Capernaum, but He thought, "Eh, I'll just walk across." It lightens the mood a little bit, which is nice every now and then. Too often I find myself getting a little too wrapped up in the technicalities of my faith (Titus 3:9). The Pharisees did the same thing. The story reminds me of this and is a great reminder to me to relax and walk humbly with my God!

I think one of my favorites is when Jesus told Peter to go catch a fish and there would be a coin in it's mouth to pay taxes.

The fish is called a Musht fish. It's a small fish with a pouch under it's mouth. When the fish hatch, the parents keep them in this pouch to protect them for a certain amount of time. As they grow, the parents start putting pebbles in the pouch to push the fish out. They sometimes go to shallow water where they have been known to pick up shiny things - gold, diamonds, coins...

How did the coins get in the water? In Biblical times, some people wanted to give an offering in secret - they didn't want their reward from praise on earth, but in heaven. So they would toss coins into holy water when no one was looking. If they weren't by holy water, any water would do.

The miracle wasn't that a fish had a coin in it's mouth - the miracle was that it was the FIRST fish Peter caught. Peter was a fisherman and had probably heard of people catching these fish like this - although catching one with a coin was rare. I can imagine how excited he was, knowing it was going to happen!

I like where He multiplied the loaves and fishes, to feed the Hungry, however it is they may Hunger is such an awesome thing. I love things like the food pantry, and shelters and missions where they give hope people who going through difficult times. I have been there and have felt the Hand up. To help someone in my community that I don't even know that might be going through times I am familiar with; that is a blessing to me. So don't forget the boy scouts when they come collecting for the food pantry, and put some of your "good stuff" in for them too. There are so many families in need right now all over. I believe people that have been shown mercy, know mercy, and in being merciful with their neighbors, will find mercy in the Savior's arms, for wanting to be like Jesus, could there be anything better?
