Less than one year ago I was under the same delusion you are all under right now. Every time I would tell some one they need to repent of their sins to be saved I experienced cognitive dissonance because I could not reconcile that I had received the FREE gift of eternal life just by faith in Christ but now I need to repent of sins to be saved? It's either one or the other. When I believed the gospel of my salvation, I became obedient to the faith. Hyper grace rules! But. You’re right, that conflict creates some real conflict or as you say “cognitive dissonance” for those finding it hard to let loose of sin. But at least you’re starting in the right direction. Now you need to go the distance and decide once and for all to forsake your sins and fully repent of them. Post Reply

When the apostles preached in Acts, they called people to repent of their sins in order to be forgiven (See Acts 2:38, 3:19, 8:32, 17:30, 20:21, 26:20). The apostle Paul makes it clear that those whose lives are characterized by sin “will not inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor. 6:9-10; see also Rom. 8:12-13, Gal. 5:21, Eph. 5:5). According to the unanimous testimony of Scripture, repentance is absolutely necessary in order to be saved.
