Christians are free to do anything?

The argument goes like this:

If it doesn't violate any command of Scripture, Christians are free to do anything.

We already see this attitude in various church institutions throughout church history. They only ended up making new commands to further their institutions. It wasn't enough for them to follow the Scriptures. They set in stone these non biblical practices.

If there is an example in Scripture, a doctrine or practice was built on it. Israel had sacred clothing for the priesthood. So churches said our priests/ministers must wear special clothing. Israel had sacred days and times and years. Churches have made liturgical calendars. Israel had an altar and sacrifices. Some churches have to have altars and sacrifices.

In general, when Christianity takes israel under the law as its example, the message of the gospel is watered down and Christians practice a christianized pharasaism.

I am aware of the normative and regulative principles. There is really an overlap between the two. The normative principle generally says anything not forbidden by Scripture is allowed. The regulative principle lines up with the ceni acronym used by some churches. That would include commands, examples and necessary inference.

The example and necessary inference principles are where Christians go astray. As I indicated in the previous post, the examples are usually taken from israel under the law. The necessary inference is very subjective.

1 Corinthians 6:12 and 1 Corinthians 10:23

“All things are lawful unto me,” but all things are not expedient. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Now days, no one much follows the Bible. I do not know anyone under the Law. No one keeps the Law. I doubt very much that Christians are copying Israel in the observance of Laws. But Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it, and not the least stroke of the pen and not the smallest letter will disappear from the Law until heaven and earth pass away. (Matthew 5:18 and Luke 16:17) Heaven and earth have not yet passed away and the Law from God still applies. But some Laws only apply to Israel. Anyway, love does no wrong. Love does not still. Love does not murder.

The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Romans 13:9) People like to replace the Bible with other ideas. No one much follows the Bible anymore. But the Bible has not changed. Yet some people seek to change it by twisting the translations and meanings. God's word is still the same. But not everything applies to Gentiles. Some things are just for Israel. Yes, some Christian faiths add their own traditions and yes, some people replace the Bible with their own ideas, so they nullify the Word of God and do the opposite of what the Bible teaches. But no one follows the Bible.
