when Peter spoke by the power of the Holy Spirit how where the interpreter....the people who spoke the language!

the Word says that the gift of tongues where for the unbeliever and it says that if they where to enter the service and here the tongues (which only they understood) would repent!

////////////////

acts2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.

this was a separate anointing the fire was one each one of them..it was one of fire!

fire is used in the word for sanctification. to burn out the chaff

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues , as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.

here we see the reason it was for them to speak the Word of Salvation to the people and proclaim it in the foreigner language it was the foreigner who translated the tongue!

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, 10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine. 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, [saying],

it seems they could speak the native language no? since peter is now addressing them and they understand.

Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words. 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day. 16 but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel: 17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: 18 Yea and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

the day Jesus set foot on this earth and died for our sins the last days began!

1corth 14:

Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all: 19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men. 21 In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying [is for a sign], not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe. 23 If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues , and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all; 25 the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speaketh in a tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most three, and [that] in turn; and let one interpret: 28 but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern. 30 But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence. 31 For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted; 32 and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; 33 for God is not [a God] of confusion, but of peace.

the is one of the gifts it is to be used for the once who is a stranger among you.. are the tongues you hear in church setting strangers free? are they hearing the good news and embracing God?

1 Corinthians 14:2

"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries."

What no interpretations?

This sounds in deference to the gift of interpretation you quoted at vs14, but it also follows vs 1 that says there are various kinds or diverse kinds of tongues.

The tongues, at Pentecost, required interpretation because several languages were represented and because the message was so important to spread abroad.

The tongues that Paul spoke to God could not be interpreted by any man, because "in the spirit he speaks mysteries." Paul says he wished everyone could have this same as him. The vs following are self explanatory. Prophetic speech edifies the church and the :prayingm: unknown tongue edifies our self. The point is simple,

These are at least two examples of the diverse kinds of tongues mentioned and both are Spiritually inspired.

But not everyone is the same when it comes to spiritual manifestations.

My take on speaking in an unknown tongue in the church today, (which is a language you've never spoken in before, nor have been taught), is the same as Paul's take... if a person can't understand what God is speaking in the gospels that have been translated into your own language, how in the world can you understand what God is speaking to you or the church in a language manifested by the Holy Spirit, you've never spoken nor been taught?

God does marvellous things, and manifests Himself in many ways to us through His Hoy Spirit that are for the benefit of spreading the gospel. But if a person can't get the word of God in the English language down pat, I wonder if they are capable of understanding what they speak or even know ifwhat they speak is indeed God speaking to them in an unknown tongue.:zzzz:

The gospel is about THE FINISHED WORKS OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS BLOOD THAT WAS SHED FOR OUR SINS. Therefore, if one speaks in an unknown tongue, are they speaking a word from the God about Jesus Christ, as did the disciples, or what? .. I mean I'm just saying, Since the Holy Spirit only speaks about Jesus in any language God gives a person to speak... when the disciples spoke in the unknown tongues, they speoke in every man's language who needed to hear a word from the Lord, about Jesus Christ, not rambling foolishness, and knew what they were talking about in that language.

Sure, I too, can speak in an unknown tongues... "honda-shanna, bica-riva chici-channa... annnnd that's just what it is UNKNOWN to you and me. :yay:... I don't think even God knows that tongue LOL...:nahnah:

But seriously, to speak in a language (unknown tongue) given from the Holy Spirit ministering the truth about Jesus in the church, I don't belive this manifestation(gift of languages /tongues) has been done away with. Because God nor His Spirit has been done away with, and God is soveregin and can do as He pleases , what He pleases, how He pleases, and with whom He pleases, to get His word out to the lost, or a message to the people, so we can't under estimate the power of God and what He will and cannot do. But, I do have problems with those speaking foolishness in the church saying the same things over and over every Sunday, and expect a person to believe that they are speaking a word from the Lord... this is a lie.

The Bible has, and continues to be translated into many different languages, and I do believe if God has a word to speak to the church in another language, you can betcha it will be to those people in the church who speak such language, in order that they may understand. However, God will prove Himslef to a person, through the manisfestation of another language they don't speak, juts to show Himself as God and His pwoer. I also believe tongues will be use in the day of the coming of the Lord to minister to those in those countries who have not been reached with the gospel. So those who say they speak in tongues today, God will grant knowledge of the language as needed in the day of the Lord....

I love it when I see American ministers (televangelist) who promote speaking in tongues, and the claim of having all of the gifts, of the Holy Spirit, plus, even more... go overseas even so, just down the street to Mexico, and need an interpreter to Spanish so they preach to the people... love it!... I often wonder what happen to their unknown tongue they claim to speak... surely, if the Holy Spirit gave them an unknown tongue and they ramble off in the church(which is against Paul's teachings) or on television speaking saying its a word from God, why would God take the unknown tongue away from them when they go overseas or to Mexico to preach?.. .you would think this is when the unknown tongue (language would be necessary to speak...uh, huh?.. /:peace::dancingp:

Speaking to God in the spirit a language only He can understand, is one thing that no one understands but God... but most people when they debate speaking in tongues, they are talking about the foolishness we hear in some churches and on television, as the disciples spoke the languages of the poeple to the people about Jesus Christ on the Day of Pentecost... can't find nowhere, wherein there is recorded of any disciple speaking to God in prayer in a language. Because as Paul says, this is something spiritual between God and the person's spirit to God's Spirit.

dear unkonwn, if you will look closely at the verses below.. youll see that the word of GOD tells us that some folks will have the gift of tongues and that the same SPIRIT is workin and distributing as HE wills. and then we see in verse 28 that GOD appointed these gifts in the church.. and in verse 30 youll see not everyone will speak in tongues.. no they are individual gifts.. then in 13:1 we see paul himself had the gift of tongues.. did he get the gift of tongues from the evil one? no he didnt..

1 corinthians 12:10-11 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

1 corinthians 12:28-30 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

1 corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
