I hear a lot of Christians say "One day of God's time could have been a million years in our time"
I believe that disputes God's word entirely and tears apart our basic fundamentals as Christians.
If it took millions of years, then that means death would have had to take place before death even existed due to over-population.
Some will debate on radio-carbon dating.. I've done some research and here are some discrepancies I have found.
-----
Experiments done with the radioactive isotopes of Uranium238 and Iron57 have shown that rates not only do vary, but can, in fact, be altered by changing the environment surrounding the samples.
The Industrial Revolution caused a significant increase in the amount of Carbon12 in the atmosphere through the burning of coal. In addition, the initiation of atomic bomb testing on July 16, 1945, and the subsequent above ground testing that followed, caused a rise in neutrons which in turn increased Carbon14 concentrations around the world.
All plants and animals take in and utilize Carbon14 equally in their systems as they do Carbon12. Mollusks found alive off the coast of Hawaii have had their shells dated with the Carbon14 method. The shells were calculated to have died 2,000 years ago, yet the animals were still alive.

These animals (to name a few) question evolution in it's entirety.
If someone wants me to explain more on the animals, post a question and I'll answer (I just don't want to go on forever about the animals on the first post).
Now.. I don't bash on all science. But researching on what has been observed about the past and I am going to ask this question from a secular point of view: Do we really know everything about the past (as in 4.6 million years ago) when we have only been observing these things for a few hundred years? Even a thousand years?? That's a very small time-frame when looking at it from that point of view.
But enough of that. Post comments, or your own observations on the subject.
i happen to agree that old earth christianity doesnt do anyone any good. who are we to pick and choose what parts of the bible may or may not be true etc...
i believe that it happened just as the bible says - a day is a literal day (i have studied it a little...) - a 24 hour period, adam and eve were the first humans created by the hand of god and all humanity is descended from them.
it is my belief that true science (unadulterated by evolutionistic thinking etc) actually provides great proof for a young earth and in favor of creation...again, i dont hav extensive knowledge on the subject, but i have heard some teaching and done some reading and to put it simply, the young earth/creation school of thought simply makes more sense....
You needn't worry about 'bashing science.' The scientific facts you addressed about carbon 14 dating are well documented and are sufficient to discredit carbon 14's assumed usefulness in determining the age of the universe!
Clearly scientific facts, as you have shown, that disprove carbon 14 dating assumptions do not compromise the Biblical account of creation found in Genesis.
Even fundamental principles of literary interpretation when applied to the Genesis account yield conclusively in one, and only one direction--God created the heavens and the earth in 6 days! ...and rather recently.
