Salvation is seen by some as a creative act of God. Most see it as a process. Those who believe in salvation as a creation of God, believe that he started it and completed it. They also believe he sustains it. He who began a good work in you will complete it(philippians 1:6). Christ is the author/beginner and finisher of faith(hebrews 12:2). Note the rebuke to the galatians-having been started by the Spirit, are you making yourselves complete by the flesh (3:3)? Romans 8:30 says regarding those whom God foreknew, he predestined. Those he predestined, he also called. Those he called, he also justified. Those he justified, he also glorified. These are the same people from the ones foreknown to the ones glorified. Paul uses the past tense for every part of God's work. The last one is in the past tense. He glorified. We would expect something like, he will glorify. But I believe Paul is viewing it from God's perspective, not ours. As far as God is concerned, the work is done. Post Reply

It is God who saved us and called us with a holy calling, NOT according to OUR WORKS BUT according to HIS OWN PURPOSE and GRACE which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began(2 Timothy 1:9). See Hebrews 9:10. In the context of hebrews this could refer to the general laws that distinguished between clean and unclean foods. It could also refer to the priests who ate from the sacrifices. Either way, the contrast is between grace as manifested in hebrews in the once for all sacrifice of Christ and the physical eating of foods. It says there is no benefit or profit in the eating of foods. The heart is not established by foods, but it is established by grace. That is a major emphasis of hebrews, between the physical and the spiritual. There is no value or benefit in the physical ordinances or the temple and the sacrifices. It's in the grace of God as found in Christ who replaced all those things with himself. Post Reply

One view says that salvation is the work of God, begun by Him and completed by Him, hence a fiat "creation." The other view says that salvation is our work, started and initiated by us and completed by us. But this view says that it isn't really completed at all. Why? because they say you can't know for sure until your dead, because it is an "evolution." By our works, those teachers say, we are making ourselves fit for heaven, good enough for heaven.
