And God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
"man" is translated from the Hebrew word adam, as in mankind, and they are fishers and hunters.
Read Genesis Chapter 2 Verses 1-6
*note* the word "GENERATIONS" in verse 4 means "Family History"...use a Strong's Concordance to verify.
*note* in verse 5 there was no one to till the ground, no farmers.
Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
"man" is translated from the Hebrew phrase "eth-Ha adam" which means "this very man" emphatically.
Read on through to verse 15 and notice how "this very man" is placed in the garden to dress it and to keep it.
Summary: Man is created, then a special man Adam is created whose purpose is to be the bloodline in which God chose in order to bring forth Messiah.
the first reference you make is part of the overall story of creation. god is describing the order of when he created things and how it all fit together. the second reference in genesis 2 is a specific snapshot of the creation of mankind that he referred to in chapter one. a detailed description of the general reference previously noted.
adam was the first human created, the first one of his (our kind), there were none others liike him. then eve was created and all of humanity is descended from them.
I don't find you to be disrespectful at all, but if you can't tell me why when referring to man in general the Hebrew manuscripts read adam and when referring to "the man Adam" they read eth-Ha adam, there's really nothing to dispute. To prove me wrong you're going to need more than just an English bible and whatever your pastor told you. Haven't you ever wondered where Cain got his wife from? Or why there are so many different races? We don't all come from Adam and Eve. A Companions Bible is a good study tool, as well as an UN-REVISED [and I do stress UN-REVISED] Strong's Concordance. You get those, check out what I said, then call it B.S. if you'd like. God bless you and I pray that the Lord gives us both wisdom.

hi there i am going to try and answer your question by the Word of God only let's see what the scripture really says;
In the day Elohim made Adam , the word for God in the bible is Elohim and it is plural.
God said let US make man in OUR image. ---see God calls (themself a Us and OUR. )
Adam was made in the image and likeness of Elohim (which is a them, but ONE.
Adam was male and female, Adam was a them.
see gensis 1:26-29 and Gen. 5:1
Adam was spirit, for the Word tells us that God is Spirit!
in the frist book of creation we see the spirit world come into being...
the animals and man at this point are spirit beings...they where spoken into being...the word created means something out of nothing....
Adam was like the other spiritual creatures commanded to procreate. They could since they where both male and female .
the Word of God say His ways are not our ways...
man in his limited mind can't understand how this could happen, but we can catch a glimpse of this in the animal of the hyena.
loook it up also look up the reproductive organs in a female get a side view you will notice the women contains both organs but one has been put to sleep...selah
Adams offspring are the angels......
satan is not a fallen angel! so he is not his decedent...
angels are known as the sons of God this word for sons also stands for grandsons....
Elohim female nature is seen in chapter three of Genesis
"for this reason the man will leave his Mother and his Father.
for man to do it they must have existed no?
God is plural but One God is all things!
God is not a truine God He is many but one
now as for the first humans they are decedents of EVE
eve in scriptures represents the flesh not the female...she is called women she is never referred to as female for the female is in the image and likeness of God as the male!
the Eve the word of God says is the mother of all mankind...
she was not the mother of Adam! selah!
each being was commanded in chapter one to produce after "THEIR" own kind!
Adam ad eve where NOT the same kind...how do i know that...well they do not reproduce UNTIL after the fall!
Adam did reproduce and so did Eve both where capable at this point in history...
Adams offspring as seen to come down to the daughter of men in chapter six and have relations with them... this was and is Forbidden by God! the command was after their OWN KIND..
When referring to the 'us' that God speaks of in the beginning includes Jesus because He was there but he hadn't manifested in earthly form yet. The Bible states that Jesus is the Word, and does it not say that "in the BEGINNING the Word was with God and the Word WAS God." Emphasis on beginning to run you back to "...let 'us' make man..."
A bit hasty to assume that the "us" would imply that Adam was made both male and female when the Bible clearly states that he made MAN out of his OWN image. So are you presuming that God is both male and female? Why then is God spoken as HIM and HE throughout the Word?
Riddle me this. But I must say, I don't argue what God has given me in understanding because the Bible ALSO say to "avoid foolish questions" in Titus.
So you don't have to answer or even comment because my remark is only to provoke thought as the Word of God does consistently for our own progress when we are trying to grow in Him.
i can tell you exactly why - adam is a general word for mankind - also the name of the first man - Adam.
its like if I had a dog and decided to name it Dog. not that complicated. seriously...man created the first man with (virtually) unlimited genetic possibilities...thats where all the other "races" came from - all one race really, but the diversity that we see in humans today is a result of the amazing ability to adapt that god built into us in his infinite wisdom. cain's wife would have been one of his sisters...also - if adam and eve werent the only two people then god would not have needed to send his son to save ALL OF HUMANITY b/c there would have been other people still perfect, still in unblemished relationship with god that would not have needed saving...god would have only had to send his son to save some of humanity.
sorry man, but i just dont see it...i think you are seriously misled and i will pray that god reveal his grace to you!
