IS THERE SUCH A THING AS "A CHRISTIAN?"

The term "Christian," which was first used as a derogatory term, was modeled after such words as "Herodian" and "Caesarian," which were already in circulation, on the mistaken assumption that the title "Christ," a Greek translation of the Hebrew "Messiah," was a proper name like "Herod" and "Caesar."

Jesus, Himself, NEVER referred to "the elect", as being "Christian," or "Christians!" He called us "THE ELECT!"

Jesus said - speaking of us, and not the "Christian(s)," that He knew would come as "wolves in sheep's clothing," or "hypocrites," [which means "actor" in the Greek], said: "AND EXCEPT THOSE DAYS SHOULD BE SHORTENED, THERE SHOULD NO FLESH BE SAVED: BUT FOR THE SAKE OF THE ELECT THOSE DAYS SHALL BE SHORTENED!" & "AND HE SHALL SEND HIS ANGELS WITH THE GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, AND THEY SHALL GATHER TOGETHER HIS ELECT FROM THE FOUR WINDS, FROM ONE END OF HEAVEN TO THE OTHER!"[Matthew 24:22, 31]

The words CHRISTIAN, and CHRISTIANS, are wholly NT terms, and are not found in the OT. The term "CHRISTIANS," is found only once, and the term "CHRISTIAN," is found only twice.

The term "CHRISTIANS" which is used once, is found in: "AND THEY WERE FIRST CALLED CHRISTIANS AT ANTIOCH!" [Acts 11:26]; The term "CHRISTIAN" which is used twice, is found in: "ALMOST THOU PERSUADEST ME TO BE A CHRISTIAN" [Acts 26:28]; and lastly, "YET, IF ANY MAN SUFFER AS A CHRISTIAN, LET HIM NOT BE ASHAMED; BUT LET HIM GLORIFY GOD ON THIS BEHALF! [I Peter 4:16]

I believe deeply in the Word of God; so much, in fact, that I KNOW that the term Christian, as used by Peter, was meant to infer that if one of us, were to be recognized.. "even as a Christian," that we should accept it as being a badge of honor on behalf of our God and faith.

"I ENDURE ALL THINGS FOR THE SAKE OF THE ELECT; THAT THEY ALSO SHALL OBTAIN THE SALVATION WHICH IS IN CHRIST JESUS WITH ETERNAL GLORY!" [II Tim 2:10]

"PAUL, A SERVANT OF GOD, AND AN APOSTLE OF JESUS CHRIST, ACCORDING TO THE FAITH OF GOD'S ELECT..." [Titus 1:1]

__________ __________ __________ __________

Wouldn't you rather be referred to by the title Jesus referred to "His elect," by; instead of what a man calls you?

Are you "a Christian," or are you "one of the elect?"

Ecc,

Here is something maybe you over looked, or maybe I failed to find in your comments about the word CHRISTIAN.

"And when he had found him (speaking about Barnanas finding Saul/Paul), he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were FIRST CALLED CHRISTIANS IN Anticoh." (Acts chapter 11:verse 26).

This is Paul speaking to King Agrippa: "King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you do believe." Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to become a Christian." (Acts chapter 26: verse27-29)

"Yet if anyone suffers as a CHRISTIAN, let him/her not be ashamed, but let him/her glorify God in this matter." (I Peter chapter 4: verse 16)

The meaning of Christian is to be Christ-like, or be a follower/student of Jesus Christ's teachings and the doctrine of Christ. As were the disciples, and as are ALL we, who believe and have received this gospel message in our hearts and are in a personal relationship with the Lord by faith.

Ecc, Hope this helps...:peace:

ECC, I apologize, after carefully re=reading your post, I did find where you made reference to the same scriptures I posted.

I will add that whether one is called a Christian, the elect, a saint, or a believer. I would think the most important part of all the names is for the person's character, conduct, and behavior to be identified with Jesus Christ as being in the family of God.
