What's the point of marriage?

"For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." - Matthew 22:30 (KJV)

No more relationships? I suppose that's a good thing, because the sin of mankind has corrupted God's creation. It sounds kind of depressing, but maybe we'll understand when that time comes.

Thoughts?

Even in our earthly relationships Jesus says that anyone who places Father, Mother, wife or child above Jesus is not worthy of him. When we go to heaven, we see Jesus face to face and that is the greatest relationship we can have, to be with him. So well, I can surely say that when we reach heaven and see Jesus face to face all our feelings our earthly relationships will look dim compared to that. Fellowship with God is the ultimate thing and I don't think there is any greater fellowship than that. And besides all people in church will also have fellowship because the love which we have in heaven is perfect love. On earth so more often our relationships are based on our needs and wants and many selfish desires. I don't see anyone looking only at the happiness of their companion and sacrificing their own wishes. That never happens and such slefishness in relationships will be eliminated in heaven.

Hey, thanks Don for your input.

I might actually quit this site, because it seems that relationships are all based on selfishness anyway. I'd rather just focus on Christ.

It's a shame what sin has done to mankind.

It is a shame, but He knew it was going to happen and created us anyway, for relationship!!! That is with Him first and then with each other. He made Eve to be a helper for us and to model aspects of His nature that men wouldn't necessarily get otherwise. God is relational, nurturing and loves unconditionally, all are aspects of His nature that are shown in women far more than men. Marriage is to be the ultimate relationship for us other than the one we have with Him. It is also a partnership in ministry, our spiritual gifts will compliment each others, and of course to raise a family of believers. Remember that it was God that made male and female, He said the two shall be of one flesh, and he gave us the desire to be with the opposite sex in relationship. The fall is what brought on the lust and immorality. Marriage to the mate He has made specifically for you is part of His plan for your lives. There are those that He has made to be single, and for those He will generally not give the desire like He does for the rest of us, although the enemy will use the flesh to attack. Hope I at least made my understanding of it clear.
