Sunday 8/9/09 Pastor Alexs sermon: Noahs Adventure
Genesis chaps 5, 6, 7, 8
Noah was a man found righteous in the eyes of God. This was when the Lord had decided to destroy the earth thru a flood. Up until then, there had been no rain on the earth, just a mist that rose from the ground.
Genesis 5:9, 13-22 Noah walked with God even as the earth was corrupt. God told Noah to build the Ark cause God had an adventure to take Noah on.
****Four Lessons to learn from Noahs Adventure****
1) Character Matters! Some people say Christians act like everybody else. This should not be. We need Gods grace to move on our journey. Gen 6:8 Noah had grace in the eyes of the Lord. Integrity matters cause we have to be useable by God. People could see a difference between Noah and other folk. There should be something different about us.
Jesus wants to change us into His likeness. If we say we are Christians then act like it! Stop settling for less, being less, doing less or accepting less for ourselves. Be a person of integrity and good character. At work dont expect unbelievers to act like believers. They cant cause they dont have Jesus like we do. We need to be the ones to act like believers at work. Be a great worker and a person of integrity that will bring other people to Christ!!
2) Choose Gods Adventures and Not Our Own. Its NOT about me!!
We have to be sold on Gods Adventure for us and not about what we want. Noah built a boat in the middle of sand for 100 years. People ridiculed him and talked a lot of junk! BUT Noah trusted God and did Gods Adventure!
For example.Us being unequally yoked in a marriage because we did our own adventure and DIDNT ask God. Our own adventures cause a lot of unnecessary pain. God wants to stop the pain for us by wooing us back to His way of doing things. We need to go on Gods Adventure. Gods Adventures will always move us outside the box more then one our own adventures could ever do.
3) You Are Just Along for the Ride! The Ark was so big with one window, no steering wheel and no rudder. God was in total control of the Ark. Noah had to just trust God. There is ALWAYS PROVISIONS when we are in Gods Adventure. This is how we know its Gods Adventure. Noah had all the food they needed. The animals marched right up to the boat on their own. Noah didnt have to go herding, pushing or dragging any animals into the boat. And it was God that shut the door of the boat. God shut the door and put tar around the door to protect the boat from leaks. God PROTECTS us in His Adventures!!
4) Timing is Crucial !! The Ark was 450 feet long and the flood had it rocking and rolling. The Ark was 22 feet higher than the highest mountains. They were on the boat for eleven months and it stunk on that boat! It was tough on the boat and it was stanky cause of just one window. Finally, Noah sees the mountains and send out some birds to find land. Gen 8:12-16. Noah WAITED until God said for him to leave the Ark. Dont you know that Noah wanted to run out of that Ark so fast but he waited on God. Its timing thats sooo Crucial. We need to wait on God to tell us when to go and take the next step.
*****The Benefits of Adventures with God :
a) He stretches our faith cause we take a risk to follow God.
b) As we walk in faith with God, we become more like Jesus.
c) Once we go on an Adventure with God, He leads the boat and opens the door. The door opens onto a NEW Adventure, a NEW Life and a NEW Beginning for us that is ABOVE anything that we could ever imagine or think!!
