Works won't Save

Book of Acts early church and apostles, Whom Paul had a problem with because many were Religious men , who taught salvation was by works.

Salvation is by the Grace of God with Faith in Jesus alone.

1Corinthians 1:17

For Christ did not send me to baptize , but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the Cross of Christ would not be made void.

Don't build your salvation on works , Christians are no longer under the Law.

Moonlight, I'm not sure if your message is for someone, or if it's just something you wanted to say. I understand the Bible from a Jewish perspective so let me add my thoughts on what it means to be "under the Law".

We are not saved by works, but good works are evidence of our faith. James said "Faith without works is dead". We are supposed to be free from sin, not free to sin. John said "Sin is the trangression of the Law". Paul said, "Do we make void the Law because of faith? God forbid. Verily, we establish the Law." Yeshua said "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I came not to abolish, but to fulfill."

We are not "under the Law", because salvation is not earned by works. Certain jews thought salvation was earned only by perfect observance of the Law. Paul said no. That doesn't give Christians "freedom" to lie, steal, murder, fornicate, and every other sin because we are saved by grace. You don't have to be Jewish to be saved, but don't judge those who keep the Commandments. I'm not trying to put anyone "under the Law".

Jesus did come to fulfill the Law. Gif sent his only son as the ultimate sacrifice for mankind's sin. Once and for All.

Man could not obey the law and sacrifices had to be made on behalf of man's sin. Under Old testament laws.

Good works do come AFTER excepting Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Right in regards to James 2:24 James is simply saying that if you ‘say’ you are a Christian, then there had better be some appropriate works manifested, or your faith is false. This sentiment is echoed in 1 John 2:4 which says, “If you say you have come to know Him, yet you do not keep His commandments, then the truth is not in you and you are a liar.”. .......Jesus said if you love me you'll keep my commandments but he did not say they would save us amen

I agree with everyone who posted here. Good works only prove salvation they do not merit salvation.

It’s just like Ephesians 2:8 says: 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Very easy for me to explain for everyone.

First , all are forgetting a very important fundamental part of everything. Which is, without a covenant with God, there is nothing for ANYONE.

This is that covenant, of CIRCUMCISION......Acts 7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

Now, what the Hebrews had confused was how that covenant comes by the Spirit, for the hope of righteousness by faith. This works by love as told, which is the love of God, to lay His life down for us ( to take away the sins of the flesh AND that circumcision in the flesh) to be enabled to receive the NEW COVENANT, which IS, the circumcision of Christ ( which is worshiping God in the Spirit given into us)..

Galatians 5:3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Colossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Now, for all the despisers.

That goodness of God leads us to repentance. No repentance, no salvation. God will render to man according to his works.

Then the ones with the covenant with God ( through Christ) do well doing, to seek eternal life.

But the contentious ones ( as speaking here) obey unrighteousness, and for the evil they do, will receive the same..

Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Continuing on about the law, the law needs to be written in the heart by God, giving a true conscience to His sheep, to be JUSTIFIED,..

Romans 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Then these uncircumcised, are circumcised in the heart, and in the SPIRIT, not transgressing the law, AS ALL WITHOUT THE LAW WRITTEN IN THEIR HEART DO, to FULFIL THE LAW, is to KEEP THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE LAW, to count for CIRCUMCISION ( or there is no circumcision been made in that heart )....

Romans 2:26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

James was mentioned, so I will mention him.

James has that law of the new covenant in his heart through Christ in Him, we heard already that is the keeping of the righteousness of the law.

Now, James reminds us the same, God respects no persons, as above in Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

But if you as a "Christian" do respect persons, you are a sinner transgressing that law ( of Christ) and are guilty of all, as you are not fulfilling the law nor keeping the righteousness of the law at all.

So do as we shall be judged by this law of liberty, and here it is : judgement on us when we had no mercy, as, MERCY REJOICES OVER JUDGMENT..

James 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
