But it would still indicate that Jewish believers, whether male or female, slave or free etc, were to be submitting to gentile believers, whether male or female etc. And gentile believers were to submit to Jewish believers. Numerous passages talk about such attitude and conduct without using the word submit. Consider Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of contention or empty thinking(or empty reputation/pretense), but with humble thinking/attitude, consider one another better than yourselves. Each one should not look on their own things, but should be considering the things of others. So if we use the example of the Corinthian believers, we find that some who had the more obvious gifts(in that case, speaking in a foreign language gifted by the Spirit) were speaking out of turn and monopolizing the assembly. So the passage goes on to say that they were to take turns. They were to do things in an orderly fashion. And the overriding principle was they were to seek that which edified and built up each other. We are to consider the needs of others. Mutual submission is just one way of saying that. Post Reply
