Moon,

And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.

Since you believe CONTEXT is not important when understanding Scripture, then let me ask you a few questions.

1.Who is Messiah talking with.

2. Is this person male, or female.

3. Where did this happen.

4. When did this happen.

5. What was the purpose for Messiah to meer this person.

6. What happened to the person after meeting Messiah.

7. Were there any witnesses to this meeting.

8. What happened to Messiah after meeting this person.

I could ask more, but from past experience with you will not answer any of the questions, and you will tell me i need a man to teach me.

I don't agree with everything Quiznos says. However, he has a very good point. Any pastor I have had would agree with him. Context is very important.

Quiznos, re: moonlight said you should get under a pastor.

Quiznos may be a "pastor/shepherd" in the true biblical sense. Going to Bible college or seminary doesn't make you a pastor. When we read the new testament, the characteristics for these individuals aren't academic. The definition of church has been twisted. The Bible translator William Tyndale was attacked in writing by the Catholic Thomas More. Why? Because Tyndale didn't use the word church in his English translation. Just because a building has a sign out front that says "church," doesn't make it a "church." It maybe a place where believers choose to gather, then again it might not be.

The believers of the New testament were The Church, or The Assembly. They didn't have a building called "church." I don't have a problem with the word "church." But it has so much religious baggage and non biblical meanings attached to it. When Paul wrote to the saints at Corinth, he called them the "ekklesia/assembly." they were divided and following their favorite teacher-paul, Apollos, Peter, Christ. But Paul said he was writing to the assembly at Corinth. There was only one assembly in Corinth. So why do we have so many "churches" under so many names? Because Christians don't understand what the body of Christ is.

Abounding,

I agree with your reply.

Any man can be a poimen - shepherd - pastor, as there areno requirements to be a shepherd.

Now an ELDER, there are requirements, an elder has the responsibility of overseeing the spiritual growth of the assembly, they keep an eye on the people when they meet together, to see that the meeting is according to the Scriptures..

If you ask the average person the FUNCTION of a shepherd, or the elders, most will not be able to answer.

The assembly is to make sure that the elders, and deacons, and shepherds function as such in accordance with the Word.
