“As God delights in his own beauty, he must necessarily delight in the creature's holiness which is a conformity to and participation of it, as truly as [the] brightness of a jewel, held in the sun's beams, is a participation or derivation of the sun's brightness, though immensely less in degree.”

Arny, welcome to the forum.

Arny, a quote from a man is just a quote from a man, do you have any Scripture to go along with that quote.

Edwards was a calvanist.

O yes, my first thought is Genesis 1:31.

31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Herewith God said to us that He will see His own Person in creature of men. It was very good, He said. The man was the jewel in the state of righteousness, the garden of Eden.

We know unfortunately what has been happen, we have been sinners. But God leaves us a little bit of His brightness.

Have a nice day/evening from NL

Arny,

Yes, ELOHIM said that is was very good, WHY because man, the image bearer was now in the garden.

The word image in Hebrew is ' tselem ' which can be rendered ' shadow ', as a shadow does not represent anything exactly.

Man does not represent ELOHIM exactly, Messiah is the only one capable of this.

Yes, we cannot meet Jesus Christ.

But when He will return on the clouds and we have been washed in His precious blood, then we will be alike Him.

However, He deserve all glory and honour of His beloved and chosen.

The Lord is the El-Shaddai, He is enough for us, sinful men.

Have a nice and blessed day

Yes, I love reading Edwards.

Also I like Robert Murray Mc Cheyne and John Owen, the Puritans were preachers of only Jesus Christ, the Crucified One. Just like the apostle Paul.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 1 Kor 2:2

Yes Paul taught the Word if God, He was called by God to teach. Some Men don't believe that.

Yes, there’s a great number of Puritan writers in addition to such excellents as Robert Murray McCheyne and John Owen.

I’m just glad a few more ministers are reading them again. Sadly, not all those under the banner “Puritan” were pure doctrinally.

But I guess any time you have a worthy movement dedicated to the true God, you get some counterfeits joining in there too

I’ve been doing some looking around on John Calvin.

In fact, one of my favorite “Arminian” writers, (I have a few of those too), who wrote a lengthy book against Calvin and Calvinism.

After being treated to his and other’s views, I started moving in the direction of rejecting Calvin’s teachings.

Then I got exposed to some pretty compelling contrary evidences in defense of Calvin.

So I decided it is time to began a thorough fact check on both sides of the argument.

The supposed historical account of Calvin putting some people to death for heresy was particularly troublesome for me.

But I found the account was not established on fact based history. But then again, who says rumors have to be fact based in history before they bare repeating ??

Right??!!!

If you have any information on Calvin, please share it.

The sad thing is, as long as sinful men are around, false accusations against others will continue to fly
