8/29/2020 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith “The Book of Ruth part 4” Ruth 4:1-21

====================================================================================

In the book of Ruth, our position in Jesus is displayed. Ruth is a poor foreign woman who was elevated by God. Boaz wanted to marry Ruth but there was a closer relative than he that could marry Ruth. Boaz went to the gate were the elders sat to meet the relative. Boaz had ten elders to witness the negotiations he has with the closer relative. Boaz tells of the land that Naomi has for sale but he doesn’t mention Ruth yet. Boaz calls attention to the property and asked if the family member would redeem the property. The relative says yes he will buy the property and then does Boaz say the foreign widow Ruth must be married to the relative also. Boaz tells him that he must marry Ruth and have children with her as well.

The closer relative did not want to marry the foreign widow Ruth so he said no and that Boaz could have the land and Ruth. The relative took off his shoe and gave it to Boaz as a sign of the deal. Boaz says to the ten elders that they are witness to the transaction that the land and Ruth are now his. Boaz brought Ruth out of poverty and sham. Ruth has a son Obed who is the ancestor of King David. God honored Ruth by putting her in the lineage of King David and an ancestor of Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Ruth humbled herself to God and she was blessed by God. All we need to do is to humble ourselves to God and live and depend on Jesus the Messiah. We are saved by Jesus and don’t have to live in fear anymore. Jesus has defeated Satan and we are God’s children. Before we met Jesus we were lost children. Jesus said He came to seek the lost. Now we have found out that we are children of God. God has and will bless us as His children. We are spiritually rich in Christ Jesus, the Son of God. The man or woman who gets the Son, gets everything that belongs to God the Father. The wealth and blessings of God are yours when you accept Jesus. When you accept Jesus, you will have a personal relationship with Jesus and God the Father. Put your trust in Jesus Christ because God loves you.

AMEN
