8/22/2020 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith “Book of Ruth part 3” Ruth 3:1-18

================================================================================================

The story of Ruth continues with her being a widow but she is to marry Boaz. This is the same as when we are trying to get back with God. Naomi told Ruth to do four things to accomplish her mission:

1) Wash Yourself:

Ruth had to wash herself. We, the sinner, must be washed by the blood of Jesus before we can go to God.

2) Anoint Yourself:

Ruth must refresh/prepare herself with perfume. We must let the Holy Spirit of God refresh and instruct us. As we grow in our Faith, we will be anointed by God.

3) Put On Your Best Garment:

Ruth had to change out of old work clothes and put on her best dress. We, Christians, put on the righteousness of Jesus. We clothe ourselves in Jesus and His Salvation. We, Christians, put on Jesus Christ.

4) Go To The Threshing Floor:

Ruth has to go to the threshing floor to get Boaz. We need to go to receive Jesus. We have to actively claim Jesus. We must have an active Faith that claims Jesus and not one that’s just standing on the sidelines. Approach Jesus with a humble heart.

Ruth did all this to get Boaz. She told him to take her under his wings and marry her. Ruth was proposing marriage to Boaz because the widow had to take the initiative herself and propose marriage to her dead husband’s next of kin. Boaz accepts the proposal as the relative to marry her. He already knew he was not the closet relative but he tells her he will take care of things. Boaz gives her food to take to Naomi. When Ruth gets home, Naomi tells her to sit still and wait for Boaz.

This is the same story as when a sinner comes to Jesus Christ. Jesus has already paid the penalty for our sins and we can rest because He has worked it out. Jesus had paid it all so we just need to claim Jesus as our Savior.

AMEN

Do are you saying, Boaz was a man if God? And that Ruthbadjed him to marry her?

Why is it then, that women today are not to ask a man to marry her but let the man initiate the marriage by his proposing marriage?

What do you think about the scripture, He who finds a wife?

In the Old Testament Proverbs?

I liked the book if Ruth but I didn't think if it the way you are presenting here !

Hopefully there's more Responses!

So are you saying Boaz was a man of God and Ruth asked him to marry her?

I think that’s called the fallacy of “spiritualizing” a historical narrative without theological justification

I think God guided Ruth to follow Naomi because Naomi worshiped the True and Living God of isreal.

In that Ruth Obeyed, she was lead to the appropriate spouse.

What about Tamar? She is in the genealogy of Christ. She was not treated justly according to the kinship relationships. She had a husband whom God killed. The brother was told to raise children by Tamar but he did not because he did not wish to give seed to his brother, probably with regard to the inheritance. The brother was slain by the Lord. Tamar hoped for another brother to be given her as husband. But her father-in-law didn't do the proper and customary duty. So Tamar dressed as a harlot and get father in-law conceived with her. Three months later when it was evident she was pregnant, he ordered that she be burned. But she had the tokens he had given her when he conceived with her. He said she was more righteous than he was, because he did not betroth her to his living son.

As Christians we don't operate under the same regulations.

In the 2Samuel 13chapter Bible she was the daughter of king David and she was raped by her half brother.

But Absalom did not speak to Amnon because he had violated his sister Tamar.

2 Samuel 13:22

Ok thanks, there must have been two different women named Tamar !

In Genesis she gave birth to twins Perez and Zerah.

Genesis 38:27-30
