You got that one right Quiznos, great observation!
John Lennon wanted a world without God just like Romans 1 says people like John want. To them, a world without God means “peace”.
John doesn’t seem to realize the practical outcome of his “imagine a world” means death to all resistance. Totalitarian dictatorships define “peace” as the absence of resistance. Destroying resistance is not a new concept—been here since Creation.
Romans1:18 For (AJ)the wrath of God (AK)is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness >>>suppress the truth<<<. 19 For what can be (AL)known about God is >>>plain to them, because God has shown it to them<<<. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, (AM)have been >>>clearly perceived<<<, ever since the creation of the world,[g] in the things that have been made. So they are >>>without excuse<<<. 21 For although they knew God, they >>>did not honor him<<< as God or >>>give thanks to him<<<, but they (AN)became >>>futile in their thinking<<<, and their foolish hearts were >>>darkened<<<. 22 (AO)Claiming to be wise, they >>>became fools<<<, 23 and (AP)exchanged the glory of (AQ)the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore (AR)God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to (AS)the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because >>>>they exchanged the truth about God for (AT)a lie<<<< and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, (AU)who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason (AV)God gave them up to (AW)dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, (AX)men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 And since they >>>>>did not see fit to acknowledge God<<<<<, (AY)God gave them up to (AZ)a debased mind to do (BA)what ought not to be done. 2

Hi David, you're definitely right about the outcome and that Lennon imagined a Godless (and small-g godless) world. However, I'm not sure it's exclusively demonic. In a way, it's much worse. He was also imagining the erasure of the differences and traits that make humans what they are. He's ultimately talking about an end to borders, one world government, socialism with no possession ("nothing to kill or die for...". I expect that he would have really liked the "sameness" described in Lois Lowry's "The Giver."
Mankind is forever in search of utopia: a means to eliminate war, poverty, conflict, suffering. What "Imagine" fails to see and what "The Giver" reveals is that the things that make us different, that may be blamed for conflict in the world are the very things worth living for, and worse yet, as Jonas (the protagonist of "The Giver") discovered, is that eliminating the good things that make life worth living (faith, family, talent, color, anything that makes you unique or stand out, possessions) does NOT eliminate the bad. Murder, slavery, oppression still exist, but under different names, like "release to Elsewhere," being appointed to one's place in society, and "sameness" (lack of choice).
People in the US and many other western countries live in a surprisingly decent society based largely on Christian principles. If you accidentally leave your wallet or purse on a public bench, there's a decent chance a perfect stranger will chase you down to give it back to you unspoiled (perhaps this is less true now than before). What people like John Lennon fail to understand, either by naïveté or by willfully ignoring is that when you remove the Judeo-Christian foundation a nation is built upon that the structure of decency collapses.

Exactly!!
John’s religion (even though he claims not to have any) and his actions and his life style all indicate he is not at “peace”, he’s rather at war—with God.
He “imagines” a world without God and without righteous restraint.
So here we have a created individual surrounded by a creation not made by him.
John was given a great stewardship—from God. John didn’t create or own anything in his possession, even his human body and a great mind. Even though he was given an unusual gift as a very talented singer he also lived on an earth he didn’t create. John enjoyed many of God’s pleasures but he didn’t create any of them. He enjoyed God’s finest foods and even God’s air to breath.
God gave all those things to John so that John (who was created) would use all of them (God’s creation) to glorify God.
Very bizarre how created people claim as their own everything that was made by God.
They assume their body and everything that was made by God for his glory was really made for them to use any way they see fi AND for >>their<< glory!
So godless people, like John, basically steal every day from God’s resources in order to empire build a God-free zone of imagined worldly “peace”.
Contemporary English Version Joh 14:27
I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. >>>>>It isn't like the >>>>>peace<<<<< this >>>world<<< can give.

Right, at the end of your post, I think you're describing secular humanism, basically: The idea that human beings are their own gods: having their own common values without ever attributing them to God or any other deity. It's basically an extension of the "hoped for" outcome of eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, Adam and Eve at least had the discernment to see that the outcome they hoped for was a lie and felt the shame of their mistake.
Secular humanism blindly plows forward believing essentially that it wasn't a mistake and that the fruit did what Satan said the fruit would do. For some, the Fall was apparently just the beginning of humanity's separation from God.

Wish I could write as clearly as some of you guys!!
But you’re exactly right. Some people’s lives prove the Romans 1 argument to a tee!
Even Jesus said, John3:19”And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”
Although some people accept false religious beliefs at first in ignorance, nevertheless, all who refuse to do right adopt whatever means necessary to deny the truth about their sin and God’s coming judgement.
And just like Jesus said, they hide in darkness so their deeds can’t be exposed.
They resolutely block out all evidences that disproves their false religious beliefs! No only that, they vigorously justify their sinful actions.
They react exactly like Romans 1:22 says they will react, “Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images of mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles”
Secular Humanists reject the truth of the Genesis account of origins because it reveals the origin of their Secular Humanists’ philosophy and their sin. So they create their own version of beginnings—e.g. the Big Bang theory and evolution. At the same time, other people groups invent their own customized beliefs and false religions.
Intriguingly these false religions and unscientific doctrines hardly address sin. Instead, sin is either ignored or disguised by other terms like “survival of the fittest”.
Thus Secular Humanists (generally speaking, all false religions stem from a slight variance of humanism) who think themselves as “wise”. But “...they become “fools”
