its, John, 3 : 8. The wind blows wherever it pleases, you hear it's sound but you cannot tell where it comes from, or where it is going, so it is with everyone born of the spirit.
Could anyone suggest the interpretation of this please? Thanks very much.
dear lou, maybe it is sayin do not worry about searching for the SPIRIT as it is already in you.its just there.. and it may just lead you to do things out of your forte so to speak.. out of your comfort level of things you believe that youre good at.. it may take you down a road that you had no idea you would ever be goin. so keep your mind open and let the HOLY SPIRIT guide you along your life path.. IT may have you serve in ways and places you never though of or desired to be or do.
Dear Cattleman, thanks for taking the time to reply to me. Was good of you. You have put a new spin on my thinking with your answer. Perhaps God will continue to open my understanding further until, i get the full picture of what he is saying.
Thanks for enlightening me brother! God Bless, jlou
This passage speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit in salvation. I believe both the Greek and the Hebrew use our English words Wind and Spirit interchangeably; and so, on top of everything else, Jesus was being poetic.
The meaning makes more sense when you take into consideration the fact that we as people have never done anything to merit salvation. Was I obedient and therefore saved? Was I righteous before God redeemed me? etc
The answer of course is "No". Ephesians 2 tells us clearly that before salvation, we were children of wrath just as the rest.
The passage in John once again affirms God's sovereign right and choice in His redeeming works. At the calling of the Holy Spirit, each of us made a decision or profession of faith, either to obedience and life or to disobedience and death. Prior to the Holy Spirit calling us, there was nothing you or I could do to please God or be reconciled to Him.
This passage tells us the same thing the rest of the New Testament declares: we can only be saved by God's righteousness. So, just as the wind goes where it wishes without obeying our desires of it, so too the Spirit of God goes without heeding our demands.
In other passages, the Lord tells us that the lost are not even able to recognize their sinfulness apart from the Holy Ghost revealing it to them.
Praise the LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST and peace be unto you my dear sister. To answer your question:
I'm persuaded that this scripture has to do with the people of GOD putting a confussed look on the face of those who do not know GOD, as they behold our walk in CHRIST.
They may find themselves thinking, "Who is this person?" "Why is he/she so happy?" Why do he/she think the way he/she think? "What makes this person so kind?"
"Why is this person singing all the time about the LORD?"
And the best part comes when they began to ask themselves, "Just WHO is this LORD, this JESUS, that this person is singing and talking about?"
You see, the world can hear us, but they certainly cannot figure us out.
Just like the JESUS WHOM we as Christians follow.
The words "canst not tell" in the verse you mentioned can also be stated as "do not know".
The same John who pened those words said of JESUS in the first chapter of the same Book,
"HE (JESUS the CHRIST) was in the world, and the world was made by HIM, and the world knew HIM not. John1:10
Again, the same writer said in I John 3:1 "Behold, what manner of love the FATHER hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of GOD: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew HIM not."
Yes! Those of us who have been Born of GOD'S BLESSED HOLY SPIRIT are different and to the world we are strange.
In I Peter 2:9 we are referred to as "a pecuiar people".
It's a matter of discernment. The Apostle Paul put it this way
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
He went on to say, "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man." I Corinthians 2:14-15
You see, we understand those of the world, by the spiritual discernment that GOD has given to us HIS Children, but those in darkness don't understand us, they just can't figure us Out. We're like the Wind.
appreciate your replies. Thanks very much. After couple of days of pondering, feel God is teaching me that if he wants to move in a certain way by his spirit, who am i to question?
When he does something that may be out of my comfort zone. ( thanks cattleman ).
