I do not think that any one cares whether animals were eaten for food before the flood, Most translations are unclear. We do know that Adam and Eve gave birth to a son named Cain and later gave birth to a son named Abel. Genesis 4:2 Now Abel kept flocks and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering--fat portions from some of the firstborn from the flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering , but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.
After the flood God also made a covenant with Noah in :
Genesis 9:1-3: Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.**EVERYTHING THAT LIVES AND MOVES ABOUT WILL BE FOOD FOR YOU**!"
