Who were the Nephilim?

Who were the Nephilim? I'm only asking because I'm sure there will be some interesting responses. Oh, and please don't fight.

First one to say an unkind thing gets a skunk stuffed in their mailbox. Second, gets one stuffed down their shorts. I'll be keeping track.

1) Hebrew for Nephilim = Fallen Ones

2) They are the offspring born from "the daughters of men" and fathered by "the Sons of God".

3) The "Sons of God" are referenced in Job 2:1, Psalm 82:6, Daniel 3:25 Enoch, Baruch, Jubilees, Philo and other ancient Jewish literature.

4) They "were the ancient heroes, men of renown"

But I'm sure everyone here is going ignore the Jewish context of the authors and embrace the reformation party line of the offspring of Sethites

- Whatever -

I’ve heard the Sethite thing, but it never made sense to me.

@justhangingaround,

I agree, the Sethite view has some obvious problems but that's what people would rather believe because they have been conditioned to think a certain way about entities mentioned in the Bible.

As far as "Angels", my guess is probably not as most think of angels

Angel = mal’akh = messenger

But:

Son of God = bene Elohim = ?

(Possibly Angels of a different rank, or perhaps the "Watchers")

Yeah, I used to be into L.A. Marzuli once with all the alien implants , black eyed kids, fallen angels and other phenomena.

I gave up the fairy tales along with the baptist view of a physical rapture several years back.

Scripture proves Enoch, Elijah and Moses never went bodily in the OT.

I can't seem to find anyone other than Y'shua that was completely sinless and perfect who ever entered bodily.

It goes back to Baal-Peor:

In Numbers 25, we find that the women of Midian began to seduce the men of Israel to sexual sin and to sacrifice to their gods. Since the gods of the pagans were often fertility gods, the “worship” often involved sexual acts. The incident is recorded in Numbers 25:1–3: “While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Midianite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.” As a judgment against the Israelites’ sin, God sent a plague among the people

Chuckk, I’ve heard the Sethite argument and could hardly understand why it’s seriously considered a valid explanation.

I think I agree with both justhanginaround and chuckk.

I probably should have done some checking around before posting but if my memory serves me right, fallen angels played a role (before Noah’s flood). Nephilim, like chuckk said were men of renown but fallen angels (the Sons of Gods) seem to have transgressed big time having done their part with the daughters of men.

Think I probably better check Jude and some other sources before I say more and end up getting myself in trouble.

David,

The descented skunks are supposed to make for good pets. But if that's not true, I'll just grab a black cat and some white paint like Looney Tunes.
