Looking at the book of Psalms, it has 150 chapters and it is the longest book in the Bible. Psalms is broken up into five books that reflect with the five books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Psalms 1 to 41 deals with Genesis aspects. So Psalm 33 is about Genesis. In verse 6 it says how the earth was formed. It was formed by the Word of the Lord. God wants to communicate with us so He uses His Word. Genesis chap 1 says “God said” and creation was made. Vs 6 says “God breathed” and entire hosts of Heaven was made. What is a host of Heaven? Well, it could be stars, planets and angels that were made by the breath of God. The Spirit of God is the breath of God because it says the spirit moved upon the face of the waters.
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. So you see way back in creation, there was the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They were all there. When the breath and the Word of God was given, it was DONE. When God “said”, it “happened” as God said. Period!
Genesis 1:9, Psalm 33:7 God caused the seas and waters to come together. He gathered the waters of the seas and stored up the deep. The psalmist is writing about what he knows from the book of Genesis. One part of scripture builds up on what we know from another part of scripture.
Genesis chapter 1 is reflected here in Psalm chapter 33. This is saying that God is creator. God has the power of His Word. God says it and it is done! Want to mess with that? Want to mess with that kind of power?
The psalmist goes on to tell us what people tried to mess with God. It is the nations that messed with God and have come to their own counsel. Back in Psalm chapter 2 it says “why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing?” Vs 4 says God laughs at them. The nations are saying they will do things their own way. The nations are saying that they have their own power. God laughs at the counsels of the nations. The fall of Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome were prophesized by Daniel to King Nebuchadnezzar. The Kingdom of God takes over everything and lasts FOREVER! The counsels of nations do not stand. Only the Lord’s counsel will stand. And why not? Because He has the power to create and the power to keep.
Psalm 33:12 Finally this brings us to verse 12. This is where we want to focus on today for this Red, White and Blue Sabbath. Also for Memorial Day, freedom and God’s gift. Verse 12 says “Blessed it the nation whose God is the Lord”. So if a nation wants to be something, they want to be blessed or happy in other translations. The nation is NOT discontent, the nation is NOT worn out because their God is the Lord. In USA our national anthem says “one nation under God”. On our USA money it says “in God we trust”. But it doesn’t say which God. That is what we have and what is called a “civil” religion. A “civil” religion has elements of Judaism and Christianity in it and this is what’s in the United States. We, as a people, when we hear our national anthem or see our money, we have to choose which God it is talking about. In our country and in the world, many different gods exist in the minds of different people. We, as Christians, have to put a name to that God in our anthem and on our money. The scripture says “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” >>>> Yahweh, El Shaddai, Jehovah Shalom, God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob and the Father of Jesus Christ our Lord & Savior. He is the God who keeps covenant with his people and Jesus Christ is Lord!
