Because some people think God will throw them into a fiery furnace by not coming to him out of fear of eternal torment.
Coming to him in fear? I thought faith is what counted. We are saved by grace through faith.
The devil is a spirit and angels are spirits , they cannot be tormented forever in a literal fire.
It means he destroys or restrains them eternally. It is a figure of speech. How many time have you heard some nemesis on TV say, "I will destroy you!"
Is that the God of the Bible? The lake of fire is reserved for the devil , angels, false prophet and beast. There are no keys to getting them out unlike Jesus who had the keys of hell and death and released the captives.

Thanks to Plato's vain philosophy and St. Augustine through the centuries, the idea of everyone having an eternal soul that lives on after death is false. It got interjected into the Bible and people think they live on despite death in the grave even if they never come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. So therefore, where do they go?
Some believe there are ghosts roaming the earth. Seems to me that Paul said that satan roams the earth seeking whom he may devour.
God's word says , to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Or they think there is hellfire awaiting those who disobey. That you have a certain awareness or consciousness of your eternal torment. But when you die without the Lord's eternal life within you, you go to the grave and perish there with no awareness whatsoever. It is like you never existed.

KJVonly: Actually all the verses you quoted excepot for 2 Peter 3:7 and Hebrews 10:27 were about God killing and destroying the armies who were enemies of His chosen Israel. In 2 Peter 3:7 and Hebrews 10:27 God is talking about the fire that will destroy the present heaven and earth on the same day as the Judgment of the uhgodly as per 2 Peter 3:7,10 below!!
2 Peter 3:7,10: By the same word the present heavens are reserved for fire, being kept for the DAY OF JUDGMENT and destruction of the ungodly.... But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. the heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed **BY FIRE** and the earth and everything in it will be burned up!
And then the ungodly lost will be resurrected for Judgment Day as shown in Matthew 25:41,46 below:

Verse 3 of Peter is talking about the last days! 1st century.
It's in the context of the Lord's coming. Asking where is he?
Then it goes into the account of the worldwide flood in the time of Noah. This verse speaks of judgement. (verse 9)
Then the next verse speaks of heaven and earth passing away. Do you really think the heavens will disappear?
Isn't this figurative speech?
A old covenant being burned up.
Consummation . Wedding supper of the Lamb was after the fall of Jerusalem. Wedding- think new covenant. Things are done on earth as they are in heaven. New heaven , new earth.
It's in the context of the day of the Lord.

There was a fire in 70 AD. A literal burning of the city. God removed the temple completely. Judgement was brought on Jerusalem. Mark 9:47,48: Jesus says, "And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with on eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into **HELL**, where their worm will not die, and their fire shall not be quenched!"
Luke 16:19-28: Jesus says, "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. And the time came when Lazarus died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side.. The rich man also died and was buried. In **HELL** where he was **IN TORMENT**, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus at his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am agony in this fire.'
