I'm waiting to comment because I want Richard to "enlighten" us with his "prophetic" long and windy post that will be mainly off topic and attacking the one here that is just questioning if indeed the verse is in error with the context of the rest of the Bible on the subject.
The **GREAT COMMISSION IN MATTHEW 28:18-20 are certainly great inspired Words of God!!
gracenotworkssaves quotes:
"Every translation of the Word of GOD Almighty has many errors."???
"When read correctly, the English translations bring a person back under the law instead of Grace."???
And gracenotwprkssaves thinks he knows how to correct all the errors even though he is not a Greek or Hebrew scholar. However there a lot of very good translations from the original Greek and Hebrew by many excellent Bible translators with just a few minor errors!!
**DOES GOD'S WORD SAY THAT *ADDING** OR **TAKING WORDS** AWAY FROM GOD'S WORD IS A SIN**??
**WE ARE BORN AGAIN THROUGH THE LIVING AND ENDURING WORD OF GOD** 1 Peter 1:23
Deuteronomy 18:17-19: The Lord said to Moses, "I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among your fellow Israelites, and I will put My words in His mouth. He will tell them **EVERYTHING** I command Him. I Myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to My words that the Prophet speaks in My name!!"
John 14:21-24: Jesus says, "Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me... Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching, My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make Our home with them.. Anyone who does not love Me will not obey My teaching. These words you hear are not My own; they belong to the Father who sent Me!" {See Deut 18:17-19 above}
Acts 5:32: We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given **TO THOSE WHO OBEY HIM**!"
Luke 6:46-49: Jesus says, "As for everyone who comes to Me and hears **MY WORDS** and **PUTS THEM INTO PRACTICE**. I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid foundation on rock. When the flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears **MY WORDS** and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete!"
I Peter 1:23-25: You have been **BORN AGAIN THROUGH THE LIVING AND ENDURING **WORD OF GOD**!! All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the **WORD OF THE LORD STANDS FOREVER**. And this is the **WORD** that was preached to you.
Matthew 24:35: Jesus says, Heaven and earth will pass away, but **MY WORDS WILL NEVER PASS AWAY**!"
I John 2:3-5: We know we have come to know Him {Jesus} if we obey His commands. The man who says, "I know Him," but does not do what He commands is a liar and the truth is not in him. But if anyone **OBEYS HIS WORD**, God's love is truly made complete in him!
Matthew 4:4: Jesus says, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on **EVERY WORD FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD**!"
Luke 8:15: Jesus says, "But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the **WORD**, retain it, and by perseverance produce a crop."
John 17:17: Jesus prays to His Father, "Sanctify them by the Truth, **YOUR WORD IS TRUTH**!"
Acts 20:32: Paul says, "Now I commit you to God and to the **WORD OF HIS GRACE**, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified!"
Romans 10:17: Consequently, **FAITH COMES FROM HEARING THE MESSAGE**, and the message is heard **THROUGH THE WORD OF CHRIST**!
James 1:18; He chose to give us **BIRTH THROUGH THE WORD** of Truth!!
I Corinthians 15:2: By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the **WORD** preached to you. Otherwise you have believed in vain!
2 Corinthians 4:2: We do not use deception, nor do we distort the **WORD OF GOD**!
Ephesians 1:13: You also were included in Christ **WHEN** you heard the **WORD** of Truth, the gospel of your salvation.
Ephesians 2:17: Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the **WORD OF GOD**!
Colossians 1:25: I have become its servant by the commission God gave to me to present to you the **WORD OF GOD IN ALL ITS FULLNESS**!
Colossians 3:16: Let the **WORD OF CHRIST** dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom!
I Thessalonians 2:13: We thank God continually because, when you received the **WORD OF GOD**, which you heard from us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the **WORD OF GOD**!
Acts 17:11,12: Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and **EXAMINED THE SCRIPTURES EVERY DAY**... As a result many of them believed!!
Psalm 118:147,148: I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in **YOUR WORD**! My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I might meditate on **YOUR PROMISES**!!
2 Timothy 2:15: Do your best to present yourselves to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who **CORRECTLY HANDLES THE WORD ** of truth!
2 Timothy 3:15,16: 4:1,2: You have known the **HOLY SCRIPTURES**, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. **ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD-BREATHED** and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom, I give you this charge: **PREACH THE WORD**!! {**WHICH IS THE ENTIRE NEW COVENANT AND NEW TESTAMENT**!!} Be prepared in season and out of season, correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people {Like GNWS & Teddyhugger}will not put up with sound doctrine!
**DOES GOD"S WORD SAY THAT **ADDING** OR **TAKING WORD'S AWAY** FROM GOD's WORD IS AN UMPARDONABLE SIN**??
Revelation 22:16,18,19: "I, Jesus. have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the Churches.... I warn everyone who hears the **WORDS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK**: If anyone **ADDS** anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this Book {Including **ETERNAL HELL** in Rev 14:9-11}} And if anyone **TAKES WORDS AWAY** {Like GNWS} from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the Tree of Life and in the Holy City {The New Jerusalem}, which are described in this book."
John 16:12-15: Jesus says, "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the Truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me because it is from Me that he will receive what he will make known to you!"
And holy spirit inspired the 8 writers of the 27 books of the New Testament to write everything Jesus told him to write!!
THE GREAT COMMISSION: Matthew 28:18-20: Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on ***EARTH*** has been given to Me {Not some RC Pope}. Therefore go and make disciples of *ALL NATIONS*...teaching them to **OBEY EVERYTHING** {The entire NT} I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very *END OF THE AGE*!”
There a lot of very good translations from the original Greek and Hebrew by many excellent Bible translators with just a few minor errors!! Whereas False Prophets of Satan try to convince that every Bible translation is full of errors and can not be trusted!!
This text is used by the so called church to baptize people in water, yet that is not what this scripture is about.
Had richard any idea how to translate he would not have posted his out of context wall of scripture.
Richard reveals his ignorance of the Word of GOD Almighty and his ignorance of the rules which govern languages.
First, the word 'disciple' does not mean to live a disciplined life. The word disciple in the Greek text means to be a 'learner, or student'
Second, the word 'baptizing' is in the PRESENT tense, which means something happened in the past, but continues on into the future, thus always being in the present tense.
These are just a few of the basics for translating the scripture into another language.
a personal follower of Jesus during his life, especially one of the twelve Apostles.
synonyms: apostle; follower
"the disciples of Jesus"
a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.
"a disciple of Rousseau"
synonyms: follower, adherent, believer, admirer, devotee, acolyte, votary; More
Yes! I was helping this 30 something year old in California doing bible study through google hangouts. I was trying to help him get back on track with the Lord as he was around the drug culture and listened to satanic rock music and had repetitive sins. I don't believe a woman should teach a man but he was a desperate case! He was able to call me anytime and did to help him. I always had him read from the Word of God in the Bible. He said, "Hey it actually works!" He would calm down and go to sleep. He was the one who called himself my disciple. I wasn't used to hearing it. He was actually going to bible studies on his own with some group. He said I was so KIND. He was sort of in awe of me a little I think. He said my profile scared people off because I was so pure at heart. He said I was even like his family. He was a friend for a while until his demons showed up and he turned against me. Sadly he is just someone I pray for now. No apology from him whatsoever after he said some very vindictive things for no reason. He is in the Lord's hands now. I gave him the Word.
The word 'baptizing' means to immerse or dunk repeadly.
Matthew 28 verses 18-20
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority( right and might) has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19"Go therefore and make disciples( learners/students) of all the nations( ethnos or enthnics), baptizing( immersing) them in(INTO) the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
According to his profile gracewithoutworkssaves is a 50 year old truck driver with only a high school education who wants to meet and marry an **ASIAN** girl between the ages of 18 and 45; and therefore had no course in in learning the language of the New Testament which is Koine Greek which is not taught in high school.
God chose Koine Greek because it is by far the easiest language to translate and has an amazing 456 verb endings making it by far the most exact language. "I would have gone fishing," is just one word in Koine Greek!! Even the Old Testament was translated into Koine Greek in the Septuagint version in the 3rd Century BC. Every Old Testament quote in the New Testament is an exact quote from the Koine Greek Septuagint version.
I studied Koine Greek in college and am not a Koine Greek scholar but I know how to find out the exact meaning of a word in the New testament in Koine Greek by the use of my concordances which include the Koine Greek and by knowing exactly where to go on the internet.
GNWS claims that a **DISCIPLE** is just a "learner" or "student", but when you explore all the verses mentioning disciples in the New Testament we find out that disciples are **MUCH MORE** than just learners or students:
gracenotworkssaves Quote:
"Richard, since you believe there are ONLY MINOR errors in the English translations, then give the correct translation of the following scripture."
Matthew 28 verses 18- 20: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make **DISCIPLES** {Should be learners or students} of all the nations, baptizing {Should be immersing} them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
However, in Christianity, **DISCIPLE** is **MUCH MORE** than a learner or student and primarily refers to a dedicated follower of Jesus. In the ancient world a disciple is a follower or adherent of a teacher. It is not the same as being a student in the modern sense. A disciple in the ancient biblical world actively imitated both the life and teaching of the master. It was a deliberate apprenticeship which made the fully formed disciple a living copy of the master. A Christian disciple is a believer who follows Christ and then offers his own imitation of Christ as model for others to follow. A disciple is first a believer who has exercised faith. This means they have experienced conversion and put Jesus at the center of their life and participated in rites of Christian imitation. A fully developed disciple is also a leader of others who attempts to pass on this faith to his followers, with the goal of repeating this process.
I Peter 1:23-25: You have been **BORN AGAIN THROUGH THE LIVING AND ENDURING **WORD OF GOD**!! All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the **WORD OF THE LORD STANDS FOREVER**. And this is the **WORD** that was preached to you. {Which GNWS claims is full of **ERRORS**}
John 17:17: Jesus prays to His Father, "Sanctify them by the Truth, **YOUR WORD IS TRUTH**!" {Which GNWS claims is full of **ERRORS**}
{**Which GNWS claims is full of **ERRORS**} Be prepared in season and out of season, correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people {Like GNWS & Teddyhugger} will not put up with sound doctrine!
I already translated the word **DISCIPLE** and the other word you said was wrongly translated in Matthew 28:18-20 was **BAPTIZING** {Greek Baptizo} which you said must be translated **IMMERSED IN WATER**?? However Jesus *BAPTIZES** {BAPTIZO) all believers with the Holy Spirit which has nothing to do with being Immersed in water!!
Mark 1:7-8: John the Baptist said, "After me comes the One more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down an untie. I baptize with water but **HE WILL BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT**!"
John 1:32-34: Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the spirit come down and remain is the One who will **BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT**.' I have seen and testify that this is God's Chosen One."
Jesus would not be glorified until he died, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. Only then would he be glorified and only then would he "**BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT**. Peter's words on Pentecost support this.
John 16:12-15: Jesus says, "I have much more to say to, more than you can now bear. But when he, the spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, he will only speak what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me because it is **FROM ME** that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said the spirit will **RECEIVE **FROM ME** WHAT HE WILL MAKE KNOWN TO YOU**!!"
Acts 1:45,8: Jesus said, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the **GIFT** My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be **BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT**!"... You will receive **POWER** when the holy spirit comes on you; and you will be **MY WITNESSES**, in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth!"
Acts 10:44-46: While Peter was speaking these words {The Word of God in Acts 10:34-43} the holy spirit came on all who heard the message The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the **GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT** had been poured out on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Acts 11:15-16: Peter said as I was speaking the word of God, the holy spirit came on them as he had come on us. Then I remembered what the Lord Jesus had said {In Acts 1:5} "John baptized with water but you will be **BAPTIZED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT**!"
