So what do you people think about the serenity prayer?

I ran across when I was looking at a profile on facebook again, and I haven't really known a lot about it. I don't really know a lot of where it came from and I got to thinking about what is its relation in the bible.

What does anyone think?

Thanks,

Cristy

My stepdad was an alcoholic, but was sober the last 14 years of his life. When he was in AA they used this prayer quite a bit.

Some times people have difficulty with change. Some things we can change, some things we cannot and we need to have the wisdom to know the difference.

We have to be honest with ourselves about what we need or the problems we face because God already knows the truth.

Hope this helps.

Be Blessed, Sandy

I agree, AA uses the Serenity Prayer ALOT... however, the secular meetings also usually quote the first half only... one due to memorization, and 2 alot fear that "Christ" will run people off.

The more Christ centered groups will quote the whole Prayer.

And personally I think its an awesome tool to keep memorized. But the whole thing, not partial.

Thanks for the answers! Yea it does seem like a good thing that would be nice for memorization or just to keep it in mind.

God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

as it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

if I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with Him

Forever in the next.

Amen.

--Reinhold Niebuhr

Trust in the LORD with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will direct your paths.

Proverbs 3, 5-6

Will this help...jk

A favorite as well, in the same vein:

O Lord God, I love you above all things

and I love my neighbor for your sake

because you are the highest, infinite and perfect

good, worthy of all my love.

In this love I intend to live and die.

Amen.
