The Bible talks about blaspheming the Holy Spirit, and how it is the only unforgiveable sin.

What is blaspheming in your definition?

dear marvel, its kinda like when you diss the HOLY SPIRIT or to deny it.

this is from wikepedia

"Blasphemy" may be used by extension to describe any display of gross irreverence towards any person or thing deemed worthy of exalted esteem.

The public domain 1913 Webster's Unabridged Dictionary defines blasphemy as:

Blasphemy (Blas"phe*my) n. [L. blasphemia, Gr. : cf. OF. blasphemie.]

An indignity offered to God in words, writing, or signs; impiously irreverent words or signs addressed to, or used in reference to, God; speaking evil of God; also, the act of claiming the attributes or prerogatives of deity. When used generally in statutes or at common law, blasphemy is the use of irreverent words or signs in reference to the Supreme Being in such a way as to produce scandal or provoke violence.

Figuratively, of things held in high honor: Calumny; abuse; vilification.

hope that helps ya a little bit.

Biblically it is calling what is good evil and evil good. Right after or before Jesus talked about blaspheming the Holy Spirit the pharisees stated that Jesus had an unclean spirit. Once you get to the point where you think that good is evil you are too far gone and there is no hope for you at salvation. Obviously we also know that rejecting Christ your entire life is also blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

I agree with everyone, and I'll add, if you had committed the unforgivable sin, you wouldn't know it or worry about it. Because you absolutely would no longer care.

(Oh - and I'm not saying you think you may have. Lol - I know it was just a question. I'm just adding my two cents! :) )

here's a quick answer from me, but keep in mind it's 3:40am right now but when it speaks of Blaspheming the holy spirit and such (and I wish I could look it up so that I could be sure of the context that Paul used this phrase in) but what comes to the top of head is that I think that Paul is talking to the hypocrites the ones that think that they can do whatever they want because God forgives them, that sort of thing, or the people like the Pharisees who instead of believing in God and up holding the Law, the upheld tradition and followed that instead of Gods word.

No one today can commit the unpardonable sin.

According to the Bible, the only action God will not pardon is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, committed by the Pharisees. The Jewish religious leaders were shown compelling evidence that Jesus was God's Son. But they chose to undermine Him in hopes of maintaining their own power. After witnessing Christ's miracles, the Pharisees blasphemed by claiming His supernatural power was from Satan. In Matthew 12:22-32, Jesus responds to their sin by warning that whoever spoke this way against the Holy Spirit wouldn't be forgiven.

People today don't have the undeniable physical presence of Jesus Christ in the world. So they can't recreate the Pharisees' sinful event.

While there is no unpardonable sin it's still possible to end up in an unpardonable state! The state of unbelieving. This happens when a person rejects the Holy Spirit's call to salvation and holy living, and then dies in a condition of unbelief.

Hmm...I don't know...the Bible really doesn't elaborate much on the subject, but I believe that while God does have infinite mercy, there comes a point where it's obvious YOU choose to resist His mercy at all costs...you grieve away the Holy Spirit. And I guess the whole point would be that this person would obviously never seek forgiveness again. The only one that has committed an unpardonable sin and is still alive would be satan... I'm not sure when that happened to satan or his angels, but if it didn't happen before...it happened at the cross. I like to think they had a chance to ask forgiveness before that, but I dunno...

Unbelief is an unforgivable sin.
