The success or failure of a church or what is the goal?

How do churches measure their progress? Since they have decided to own physical property(land, buildings, etc.) and pay regular salaries to people, they have to "be practical" and measure it by human standards. I have discussed this with Christians who believe this. " We have to have a building, a parking lot, we need to pay someone to minister to us. People will not come if it isn't convenient, comfortable, or if the music isn't special." So churches measure success or failure by how many people attend. "What is our membership?" "How many people were baptized?" "How much did we get in tithes and offerings?" "After all, we have to pay the rent/mortgage, the salaries of the pastor, the assistant pastor, the pastor of music, etc, etc, etc." If the bottom line isn't met, then the board of elders or trustees have to hold someone accountable. They ask the executive or senior pastor to resign because he isn't successful. They may be honest and say the church isn't making enough money and doesn't have enough members. They need someone with more pizzaaz. Or they may find some trivial excuse, as the pastor has some personal issues that he needs to deal with, but who doesn't?

Colossians1: 28 Whom we preach, warning every person and teaching every person in all wisdom, so that we may present every person mature in Christ Jesus

Hi Montana,

Yes it is I, the truth seeker.

I have posted on this site a few times, that the ' church' is a BUSINESS, which you have pointed to the reasons the ' church' is a business.

Tell me if you have ever heard of this saying.

IF you tell the people a lie long enough they will believe it.

The ' Christians ' have been lied to for hundreds of years, and they believe the lies, that you have mentioned.

Yes, GNWS, if we hear something enough times, we begin to believe it. That is why we must search the Scriptures (Acts 17:11).See also Acts 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and three sabbath days he reasoned with them out of the scriptures.

The 'church' people hear, something like this,

The gospel says that:

1. You need to know that you are a sinner

2. You need to confess your sins.

3. You need to REPENT of your sins.

4. You need to trust Messiah

This is the FORMULA, the so called pastors tell people they need to do in order to be saved.

This is not FAITH, this is a SYSTEM of works which cannot save anyone.

Do Christians think about all the money that goes into those things, the land , the building, the salaries, that could be going to better things?

Acts 20:33 I have desired no one's silver, or gold, or clothing.34 you yourselves know, that these hands have served for my needs and to those with me.

Act 20:35 I have showed you all things, that in this manner laboring it is necessary to help the(physically) weak(poor/sick/ indigent), and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

The elders at Ephesus were to follow paul's example. by working with their own hands, they would meet their own needs and those of others, especially those who were sick or unable to work for some reason, other than laziness, which paul addresses elsewhere. Those who serve/teach/preach the Word are to set the example, by working with their own hands.
