Hello Gracenotworkssaves,
I am not sure what you want to discuss. Christ's righteousness becomes OUR righteousness.
Justification is like a "judicial act" of God pardoning sinners, like a judge who pardon a criminal and reinstate him as "right" or "just" in the eyes of the law again. In the same sense, God accepted us as "justified" and vindicated us in a declarative act of "righteous-standing" in his eyes. It is by the grace of God (Romans 3:24, Titus 3:7) within the blood (Romans 5:9) and though faith (Romans 5:1, 10:10). Not by the works of the law or from our own works of righteousness (Galatians 2:16, Romans 3:20, Philippians 3:9), but from God/Christ's righteousness given to us makes us justified.
Romans 10:9-10 If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is LORD," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.
Titus 3:5-7 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
---
WHEN WE ACCEPTED JESUS CHRIST AS OUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOR AND HIS RESURRECTION, THE WE HAVE IMPUTED OUR SINS UPON HIM (since he remain without sin) AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD/CHRIST WAS IMPUTED ON US. Not a "swap" but being "credited" in the sense of a judicial act. For instant, in the book of Romans chapter 4 teaches "Imputed Righteousness" the word imputed in Greek is transliteration as logizomai, which means "to pass to ones account, to transferred" (CREDITED, or counted Romans 4:3, 5, reckoned Romans 4:4, 10, and imputed Romans 4:6, 8, 11, 22, 23, 24) which is mentioned 10 times. The righteousness of God/Christ is transferred to us by faith.

1 Peter 2:21-24 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. HE HIMSELF BORE OUR SINS IN HIS BODY ON THE CROSS, SO THAT WE MIGHT DIE TO SINS AND LIVE FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS; by his wounds you have been healed.
2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, SO THAT IN HIM WE MIGHT BECOME THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.
Philippians 3:7-9 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, NOT HAVING A RIGHTEOUSNESS OF MY OWN that comes from the law, BUT THAT WHICH IS THROUGH FAITH IN CHRISTTHE RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT COMES FROM GOD ON THE BASIS OF FAITH.
Romans 3:21-22 But now apart from the law THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD HAS BEEN MADE KNOWN, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. THIS RIGHTEOUSNESS IS GIVEN THOUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST TO ALL WHO BELEIVE. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,
1 Corinthians 1:30 It is because of him that YOU ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO HAS BECOME FOR US wisdom from God that is, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, holiness and redemption.

Because Messiah is RIGHTEOUS, He is our ADVOCATE.
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
