What is that to you?

Hey guys, I just finished reading through John's Gospel and have a question for any that want to take it on...from the NKJV

John 21:20-23,

v20 Then Peter, turning around , saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"

21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"

22 Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."

23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die.Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?"

Ya know, after typing this and reading some more me thinks the question I had for you all is becoming clear to me now. That's no fun! I hoped to spark a good discussion...oh well back to the ole drawing board, head low, hands in pockets, kicking the dirt...

In verse 21, I first thought Peter turned to see Judas standing there also next to John(the disciple whom Jesus loved) who followed them, asking "what about this man?" I realize now Peter is not asking about Judas's salvation and outcome, but was really asking what of John's future was, because what Jesus foretold of Peter's future in v21:18, and Jesus says in effect Don't be concerned about My plans for him, that's My business, you keep your eyes on Me, Follow Me. Is there more that I'm missing? Thanks for any replies, Jim

Ya you got it Jim. It's too easy to get distracted by other people's giftings and callings - especially if yours is one of those thankless jobs/callings.

You won't be rewarded for what others do (unless it's evil against you for Christ's sake), you'll be rewarded for you obedience. That is the central them of it all - obedience.

Blessings on you man,

Ian

Thanks Ian, that does help make it even clearer, I don't have that gift of clarity in what I say but you and many of the others who post do. Would it be wrong of me to covet that gift my brother? lol

have a great day all

Haha! Ho boy - you have NO idea man, seek it, because it is a gift, and it's not one I have always had! In fact, I still struggle with communication. Went on the first 26 years of my life with a horrible miscommunication problem - I said stuff to people with my words and body language that I wasn't thinking nor believing, and never even knew it.

It wasn't till a friend smacked me upside the head and said "No, you are the problem, you need to fix it. if you're communicating the wrong information to people, why is it their fault for hearing what you're saying?"

Ouch. You couldn't speak to me for three days - I was horribly angry at the world - everyone else was the problem, not I.

Once I accepted it, then the Lord was able to help me deal with it and fix it. So thanks - glad to hear communication is working.

And actually, I think you do a better job than you give yourself credit for.

Blessing on ya man,

Ian
