What if God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy
Posted : 11 Jun, 2015 04:20 PM

The title of this post is taken from the book by the title of "Sacred Marriage by Gary L. Thomas" and the title of this post is what I want people to question.

People often look for someone that they believe will make them happy.

Proverbs 17:3 tells us... "The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart."

(this verse reminds us that fire purifies things) so why should people view marriage as anything else.

We know that the time that we spend on this earth is meant to be a "dress rehearsal" and eternity is the main show.

Aside from our salvation, the next most impactful decision that we can make is who we are going to marry. I am not trying to say that people should marry someone that has nothing in common with them...I just think that we all could stand to be reminded that we should look for spiritual qualities in people.

Yes it does make you think about what the purpose of marriage is, but it also makes you wonder what society is trying to teach us?

Marriage will initially make you happy but as the years go by when all the romance fades away, it will force you to be holy, lol.

So I guess, it's both. Just kidding.

For me marriage is something not to be taken lightly, because of the concept of "forever" involved. It is compared to Christ and Church, see Ephesian 5:22-32.

As with anything else in this life, we are as you said in a "dress rehearsal", preparing for the ultimate event, the culmination of our blessed hope.

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." 1 John 3:2-3
