SEVEN DEADLY SINS - Each is a form of Idolatry-of-Self, wherein the subjective reigns over the objective.

In the Book of Proverbs 6:16-19, among the verses traditionally associated with King Solomon, it states that the Lord specifically regards "six things the Lord hateth, and seven that are an abomination unto Him", namely:

1. A proud look

2. A lying tongue

3. Hands that shed innocent blood

4. A heart that devises wicked plots

5. Feet that are swift to run into mischief

6. A deceitful witness that uttereth lies

7. Him that soweth discord among brethren

Another list, given this time by the Epistle to the Galatians (Galatians 5:19-21), includes more of the traditional seven sins, although the list is substantially longer:

adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, "and such like". Since Saint Paul goes on to say that the persons who practice these sins "shall not inherit the Kingdom of God", they are usually listed as (possible) mortal sins rather than capital vices.

Pride ~ Excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Bible passages on pride: Deut. 8:17, 1 Sam. 2:3, Pro. 8:13, 11:2, Matt. 20:26, Luke 18:14

*** [ Lucifer ] admiration of the personal self. Thou shalt have no other God before me

Envy ~ is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Bible passages on envy: Ps. 37:1, 49:16, 73:3, Rom. 1:29, 1 Cor. 13:4, 1 Tim. 6:4-5

*** [Leviathan ] Insatiable desire. Selfishness. Thou shalt not Covet

Gluttony ~ is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Bible passages on gluttony: Ex. 16:20-21, Num. 11:32-33, Luke 12:19-20, Rom. 13:13-14

*** [Beelzebub ] devil - Is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste.

Lust ~ is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Bible passages on lust: Gen. 3:6, Job 31:9, Pro. 6:24-25, Matt. 5:28, 1 Cor. 9:27, 1 Tim. 6:9

*** [Asmodeus ] antagonist - Intense desire of money, food, fame, power or sex.

Anger ~ is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

James 1:20 For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Wrath ~ feelings of hatred and anger

Bible passages on wrath: Ps. 37:8, Pro. 6:34, 14:17, Matt. 5:22, 2 Cor. 12:20, Eph. 4:26

*** [Satan ] Feelings of anger can manifest in different ways, including impatience, revenge, and self-destructive behavior, such as drug abuse or suicide. Wrath is the only sin not necessarily associated with selfishness or self-interest, although one can of course be wrathful for selfish reasons, such as jealousy (closely related to the sin of envy).

Greed ~ is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Bible passages on greed: Ex. 20:17, Neh. 5:7, Job 20:15, 31:24, Matt. 16:26, 1 Cor. 5:11

*** [ Mammon ] Pursuit of material possessions

Sloth ~ is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

Bible passages on sloth: Pro. 6:6, 10:4-5, Matt. 25:27, Rom. 12:11, 2 Thess. 3:10, Heb. 6:12

*** [ Belphegor ] Failure to do things that one should do
