What does the bible say about animals/pets in Heaven? And do animals have a soul?

horizontal rule

The Bible is very clear that there will be animals in heaven:

Isa 65:25 5 The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.

I have no doubt that our loving heavenly Father can resurrect our pets and make them part of our happiness in heaven. However, the Bible does not give any references to this, as the Bible was written for the salvation of mankind. (After all, something written for animals wouldn't do a lot of good when the animals can't read!!)

Sin came on this earth through man, not through animals. The animals are but innocent by-standers. Rom 5:12: Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned

This brought heavy consequences on all of earth's creation.

Gen 3:17: Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

Rom 8:22: We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

In Revelation 5:8-13 all creatures recognize Jesus as the Savior of the world and praise God right along with redeemed men.

In Psalm Psalm 145:-9-10,13,15-21 God loves all His creation and has made plans for all His children and the lesser creatures to enjoy His eternal Kingdom.

Romans 8:19 says that the lesser creatures await Christ's return to redeem the sons of God so they, too, will be released from physical death to eternal life.

Romans 8:21-22 says "Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now"

Though animals do not have immortal souls, I do believe that the Lord will make a way for us to see animals in heaven. Too many Biblical scriptures point to it........MAY ALL BE BLESSED!!!

Will there be animals in Heaven? Do they have a soul ? Isaiah 65 Vs 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together; and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock; and dust shall be the serpents meat. Isaiah 55 Vs 12 For ye shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Our God created all things in Heaven and Earth. He even clothes the lilies of the fields and cares when a sparrow falls.

Yes all things have a soul even the trees of the field have a soul toward their Maker. God made all of the birds, the cats and the dogs and yes I believe they have a soul. Animals are able to understand commands and love. They often crave love. They would not understand love if they had no soul. I believe we shall have pets in Heaven including those we fear here. We shall have nothing to fear there. Not all animals are edible and therefore have another purpose.

GOD is a loving God and He would not give us something to love if we cannot have them in Eternity. Before King David was a king he was a shepherd of sheep. The lowly shepherd became king. The king Jesus became a lowly shepherd, and He became a lamb. The whole world has the grace to be saved because the King became a Lamb. Who did the angel appear to to tell of the Blessed Birth ? Shepherds! Lowly shepherds who were not even allowed in court and prostitutes were.

The Bible is full of references about animals. God created them and God loves them. They will be there. Sheep are smelly, dirty , and basically stupid creatures but they were sacrificed ,before Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb for us all. Even smelly dirty sheep are loved by God their creator. We all like sheep have gone astray. I know in my sin before Christ I was smelly, dirty and down right stupid but Christ loves me. A Homeless man brought hope and salvation to this world, by becoming a lamb. All animals have a soul and are going to be with their maker. The way dogs are referred to is usually negative but the Creator loves them and they are mentioned in the good book. Look into your pets eyes and see their soul. They look guilty when they have disobeyed and they show contentment and delight and love. Another gift of God to be loved by a pet, we shall see in Heaven.

Rev. 19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. Is. 11: 6-8 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, and the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. {We believe this refers to the millennium, but could also refer to the new heavens and new earth.}

Zech. 14:20 On that day "Holy to the Lord" will be inscribed on the bells of the horses... Note: The passage from the Revelation shows that presently there are horses in heaven. The passages in Isaiah and Zechariah show that there will be animals in the millennium kingdom on earth. The present violence in the animal world is a result of the curse in the garden of Eden pronounced by God due to man's sin.

Rom. 8:19 -22 The creation {this includes animals} waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time...

The Lord put all things in the oceans, in the air, and on earth under man's subjection in Genesis 1:26. What makes man different from the animals is not that he has a soul, but that he is made in the image of God {Gen. 1:26-27}. The words "let us make" uses the same Hebrew word for "make" found in Ex. 20:4 in which God commands us to "not make" any graven image. It is because we are made in the image of God that murder is forbidden {Gen. 9:6} Also, God breathed His Spirit into Adam Gen. 2:7.

This Spirit no longer resided inside of mankind after the fall in the garden of Eden. If it is the Spirit of God that makes us different, then those who have not accepted Jesus as Lord would be no different than animals, but this is not the case! We know it is not the case, because Gen. 9:6 was written after the fall of man. I do not pretend to understand what all "made in the image of God" means, but there are some things I know it does not mean: It does not mean that animals do not have souls, Genesis chapter 1 proves that. It does not mean animals cannot reason-- anyone who has ever raised pets of any kind know that animals do reason quite well.

At times you can almost read their thoughts as they make decisions about which food to eat, which food not to eat, how to get out of a pen, how to sneak away from you when they know they are in trouble, etc.. From Numbers 22:21-34 {about Balaam and his donkey} it is quite obvious that at times animals are much more spiritual discerning than people are! As for the animals, however, we know that animals do have souls. We know that the soul lives on after the body has died. We know that there are presently animals in heaven. We know that there will be animals upon the earth in the millennium kingdom. We also know that God himself watches over even the birds of the air {Matt. 6:26} and takes care of them. To say that animals don't go to heaven when they die has no foundation in scripture!

Do Animals Have Souls? Most of us have heard all our life that animals do not have souls. Yet the first chapter of Genesis indisputably contradicts that position. The Hebrew word for soul is nephish and refers to the part of our being which lives on after physical death. The first chapter of Genesis not only proves that animals have a soul, but it also proves that plant life does not! Here are the verses: Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarmers {fish} having a living soul and let the birds fly over the earth, on the face of the expanse of the heavens. Genesis 1:21 And God created the great sea animals and the creeping things all having a living soul...

Genesis 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth souls of life according to its kind, the cattle, the beasts of the field, and creeping things according to its kind. Genesis 1:30 To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which is a living soul, every green plant is given for food. In all four of the above verses the Hebrew word nephish is used which is the exact same word used of man in Genesis 2:7. Most modern translations give no hint that this is in fact the case, but most older King James bibles do give a footnote: Hebrew, lit: soul for each of the above verses. It is this same "soul" which David refers to in Ps. 16:10 when he says: "You will not abandon my soul to sheol." {Sheol is the place for the souls of those who have physically died.}

I think God created animals for many different reasons- For sacrifices, food and to help men out-i,e, work and watching over their families- But I do not think God has a place for them called Heaven ) per say) I do not think they have souls either-There is no mention of either of these in the Bible --So I am speaking what I believe- Thank you and God Bless

From Genesis 1:26-27, we know that only human beings are made in God's image. However, this does not necessarily mean that animals have no souls. What we know from this passage is that only human beings of a reasonable age have a choice to serve God or not. Ecclesiastes 3 21 "Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?" (NIV) Although this passage is often interpreted to mean that animals don't go to heaven, I think that the Preacher here is simply stating that "who knows for sure what happens when we die?" "1 Corinthians 2 9 However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--" (NIV) In short, I would say that although the Bible clearly gives the conditions for humans going to heaven, I really don't think there is anything in it that definitely states what happens to animals when they die. I feel that it's possible for at least the more intelligent animals to exist in some form after death. Since 1 Corinthians 2:9 is interpreted to mean that heaven is a place of happiness beyond imagination, I believe that God finds a way for us to enjoy the presence of both our saved loved ones and our departed animal friends. I know that animals don't have a soul but there are animals in heaven because God gives us the desire of our hearts and if we want animals we had and miss He will provide this for us and give us those we wanted on earth and couldn't have :) amen!

I know the bible speaks of Jesus on a White Horse, and the Lion laying down with the lamb, so I would assume that there WILL be Animals in Heaven. As for pets, I would think it would be possible, even if some would argue that Animals don't have souls, God created the pets, and he would easily recreate them. But my main point is, I would think that having your pet in heaven would be by request only. It doesn't seem ethical that you would have every pet you ever owned on earth in heaven, but yet you could request your SPECIAL Pet(s) that you dearly loved, and they will be with you in heaven. This is my reasoning. Thank You.

It might be helpful to note that just like humans, animals have experienced a massive "degeneration" after the flood. They were probably much more intelligent, lived longer, etc. Some of the animals that retain intelligence now do seem to have a moral character when they are made aware of it by authority figures(humans, alphas), similar to the effect God and His law has on humans. Animals may even have had the ability to speak. The bible doesn't really say anything on the matter, but we can trust a God of justice and mercy to do the right thing. I do think it's a large mistake when people view animals as having equal or greater value and potential as humans. Humans were created in God's image, animals were not.

Bailey up there is reading from a bad bible, here's what the authorized KJ say's (Gen 1:20) And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. (Gen 1:21) And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Nothing about animals or fish having a soul, its a classic case of (adding to)!

Its my belief that this verse is not talking about our pet dogs but sinister spirits, (Rev 22:15) For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

I dont believe there will be pets in heaven, but do think there may be animals, fish and creatures of all sorts, just look at the four beast, (Rev 4:7) And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

Man / Women / Animal...

God created all the animals...He saw that is was good...Then He created Adam for there was no one to tend to God's creation...Then God created Eve from Adams rib as a help meet for Adam to tend to God's creation...I am not saying that GOD favors man over animals...I am saying that God created all in things in perfect ORDER as is His way...I came across Ecc 3:19-22 during a recent one on one Bible study and I dont question God's WORD...

Ecclesiastes 3:19-22 (KJV)

19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

*** This word "spirit" is the same Hebrew word "ruwach" H7307 which means..."wind, breath, mind, spirit"..."of heaven"...it scripture says above in verse 20...[ ALL ] go unto one place...and that one place is Heaven and its Creator ***

22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

Gods Blessings...xo
