I am concerned when I hear people who are believing and teaching this new seeker friendly gospel. The one that only teaches about how Jesus loves us, and that we are not under the law but under grace. They do not talk about sin, or about accountability. They do not talk about the God who judges or punishes, but only about love and grace. The Bible teaches us that we are not to abuse our liberty.
Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
Rom 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
It is not enough for us to read, study, and preach the word, we must be doers of the word. We must teach about sin, we must hold one another accountable. We must set the example by applying what we read to our lives. It is our responsibility as Christians to walk in holiness. The world is watching, we must be a better example.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jas 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Jas 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
ya, know the way we have done church for years has been highly uneffective. Sinners are not drawn to Jesus like they were in the bible. You have some great scriptures. I appriciate your concern for people being doers of the word. Seeker freindly churches are very useful because the present the gospel to a culture that is hostile toward a judgementa church. Most bible thumping churches seem to preach more of their personal convictions then the actual Word of God.Well thats my opinion.l
Thanks for your answer. I guess that I have been very fortunate in my short 4 years with the Lord. All of the churches that I have attended teach and preach the word of God chapter by chapter, verse by verse. They did not teach topically or their own opinion. What I have a problem with is the churches that do not teach about sin, our responsibility as Christians to obedient, to be a good witness, and to correct a brother or sister who is straying. It's all about love and grace in some churches and that's not the full picture of God.They do not teach about the God who judges and punishes and expects us to walk in holiness. The seeker friendly churches are embracing the way of the world and excepting sinful lifestyles. They compromise to grow the church and increase attendance and tithing. How many sermons do here them teach about people living together in sin, or about homosexuality, abortion or lifestyle choices etc. They do not want to offend anyone. They do not teach the whole council of God. Political correctness is spiritual cowardice. These are the problems that I have with seeker friendly churches.
