Sunday 5/3/09 Pastor Alex's sermon: ANOINTING

Isaiah 61:1-3, Exodus 28:41, I Samuel 10:5-7, I Samuel 16:7, Acts 1:1-8, Eph 4:11



Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me....being anointed to do these things of the Lord.

Old Testament - Anointed means Messiah in Hebrews.

New Testament-Anointed means The Christ in Greek.



Anointed-- to be picked to be set apart to do God's plans.

Anointing--Old Testament...it was the pouring of oil over the priest's head. The priest go anointed, the kings got anointed, the church musical instruments got anointed, the prophets got anointed. The prophet Elisha asked Elijah for a double anointing when Elijah was going to Heaven to be with the Lord.



Exodus 28:41 Anoint, consecrate, sanctify.

Consecration is NOT fasting. Consecration is setting something, someone apart for God. Fasting is just for food...not eating to focus on God. Fasting isn�t not watching TV.

I Samuel 10:5-7 The Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, anoint you

I Samuel 16:7 God looks at the heart not the outward appearance.



New Testament>>>>>

John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit while in his mother's womb. God did the same with Jeremiah by anointing him as a baby. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit came on him as a dove....he was anointed by God and called to do God's plan. Jesus was anointed to do the work of the ministry, was called by God and had a purpose to do God's will.



Acts 1:1-8 vs. 8...We shall receive power to witness of Jesus, anointing us to do the work of the ministry. We have an anointing as the body of the believers, to do what God says. SPREAD THE WORD !

But�we need to be careful to stay pressed into God and do exactly what He says, exactly as He says and DON�T do it our way. We have to be careful not to get caught up in doing things our way and saying its God.



Eph 4:11 God made some to be apostles, prophets, pastors and teachers. God anointed them to do these things. What are we anointed to do??

Pastor Alex is anointed to teach us to do the ministry of God�to do the works of the ministry of the church. When God anoints us, He wants us to be a church that is unified in one place. God wants to discover our anointing, our passion, why we were born, so we can do God�s work.



Things that hinder us from discovering our anointing:



1) Our Schedules: being too busy is why God created the Sabbath for us to rest and focus on Him every seven days. Stay focused on God.



2) Tithes: bringing 10% tithes to God is to test him to see how He will bless us. He wants us to bring the tithes so we DON�T become self-efficient. God wants us to bring 10% tithes so we learn to trust that

GOD WILL PROVIDE EVERYTHING WE NEED!!!!!!!!!



***Recognize that��..

We need God�s anointing/power.

We need to read scripture so that it will come alive in our hearts

We cannot DO the Word of God alone.

We need God�s anointing to Do the Word.

We need to believe God loves us and has a reason for us to be living.



God has anointed us to do his will, his plan and we have to consecrate ourselves�set ourselves apart to do God�s work. We can�t do it without the anointing of God! God wants us to get sooooo�serious about Him!



***We need to read the New Testament�the whole New Testament twice this month. Commit to this today as a whole church because God wants us grounded in his Word.

God wants us to be SOLD OUT TO HIM!!!!!!!
